A Stranger's Promise

by Kait   May 15, 2007

Two strangers walking side by side under the moonlit sky.
The girl reaches for his hand
The boy laces his fingers tightly through hers and refuses to let go.

Without realization, night turns to day and it's time to go their separate ways.
She is scared to death that she will never see him again.
He wraps his arms around her waist and whispers in her ear.
He promises to meet her in that very spot at the same exact time as this night.
She would hold him to this promise and go right back to that spot.

All day long she couldn't think of anything but him.
How could she fall in love with a person she hardly knows?
She becomes extremely afraid.
She doesn't need another heart break.
But, it's worth a try.

It was 8:09PM that night.
The bench under the tree was their spot.
He sat there waiting as 2 minutes slowly passed by.
She ran toward him and apologized for being late.
Her explanation was hushed by the gentle touch of his lips on hers.
From then on she knew not to be afraid.
He placed a piece of paper into her hand.
She unfolded it neatly and read what was written:
"I know you're afraid to take that leap, but if you decide to take it, I will be there to catch you."

Love is all they know.
They only see each other.
Forever is where they will be.
And, always in their hearts, will they hold a stranger's promise.
