A City Once Alive

by Lanaia Lee   May 18, 2007

I get up each morning and fling the shutters open to see another beautiful day
Looking out on this beautiful city by the sea
Everyone seeming so happy, as they work, as they play
No idea in the near future, we would pay a tremendous fee.

The day has started, much like any other
But soon the earth starts to violently move
No where to run, no where to hide, there is no cover
I must pray to Zeus, for my fears to be soothed

Soon the sky seems to become completely black
It is raining, but not water, it seems to be ash
It's hard to breath, it seems like the Gods themselves have attacked
It is even thundering, sounding like the God themselves clash.

People are running amuck, with really no where to go
Why oh why, Zeus, God of all, why have you abandoned us?
You have always provided us with everything, being a friend, not a foe
I have to find a safe place, this is a dire must.

Where does on go, when the earth violently shakes?
The sky has opened raining ash, it is evident we will die
Soon looking out, I see am ominous cloud, spreading fast , looking like an ash lake
I beseech you mighty Zeus, I have to know why.

My beautiful city, would soon be buried for a very long time
Most of us would die, history would never forget this day
Knowing there is no escape, I accept the fact with Zeus I must dine
Our beautiful city now destroyed, once alive and known as Pompeii.
