The saga of being a nigga

by jabari formally known as jeffrey A.K.A. platinumboy   Apr 17, 2004

For once in my life can i walk to
the store without all eyes on me

for once can i shop at a nice store
without all the security guards on my back

why cant i have a job down at the
post office again-oh yeah im black

why did the sweet old white lady
clutch her purse-oh yeah im still black

but what did i eva do to yall
white people-oh yeah my momma
and daddy was black

if you remember correctly yall
was the ones who put a burning
cross on my granddaddy's land

yall was the ones who hung my
great uncle Willie

so think twice about the next time
you dont wanna give me a job
cuz im darker, or the next time
i get pulled over and told to
kiss the asphalt cuz im black

a word from the poet
..............................

its not that im racist its just that im tired of being assaulted cuz im
darker my momma used to tell me that i was blessed buy being darker that it tells a story about our legacy but now i realize that it was just to ease the pain of being a nigga
