One Summer

by Tamara   May 30, 2007

I want to turn my eyes away,
As you whisper goodbye,
With tear filled eyes,
And trembling hands.

But I can’t,
So instead I squeeze the sand
Between my toes,
And wish to stay
If only for one more day.

I remember it like present,
The sun against your skin,
The band plays in the background,
Like a soundtrack made for us.

Jumping from the dock,
Was not the only sense of falling,
The air was full of something,
Other than just summer.

What had started,
As innocent fun,
Had quickly developed,
Into summer love.

So I stand here,
Dreading our goodbyes,
Cause the week is done,
I’m leaving the next day.

The night is calling,
So I stand memorizing you,
The way your hair blows,
How the water falls off you,

And I know this could be,
Our last conversation,
So from you,
I don’t dare move my eyes.
