All Dressed Up

by Viola   Jun 3, 2007

I'm all dressed up
With no place to go
I'm waiting for no one
Because I know you won't come around
I'm expecting nothing
But still I want you around
I'm all dressed up
Even got my makeup done
Hoping you'll show up tonight
But I know you won't
Before it all goes to waste
He calls and asks just for a drink
And I agree so profoundly
Cause I don't want to be alone tonight
He says I'll pick you up at eight
I smile and say I'll see you soon
So he arrives and we go out
A lovely night among the town
The people laugh and drink along
Talking, mingling, and so on
He asks for a dance and so I follow
The music passes swift and slow
The stars twinkle in the sky
And as he holds me oh so close
I secretly feel so apart
Disconnected from him in every way
Even though I'm in his arms
It's you I think of all night long
He offers to take me home
A slow and silent late night drive
I say good night with half a smile
He looks at me for a while
Then turns to leave
And then I'm in my room
Alone again at last
As I sit there
In my black lace dress
My high heeled shoes
And done up hair
I think of how I missed you tonight
How I'm all dressed up
Just for you
And I feel like I need you for a while
So I'm hoping you'll be home right now
I pick up the phone
Dial your number and wait for the tone
It rings three times but you don't answer
Guess you're not home
But I'm all dressed up
And I have no where left to go
A lingering feeling hangs around
But I'm waiting for no one
Cause I'm sure you won't come around...
