Fire Before Smoke

by RetroRavey   Jul 3, 2007

A smoky haze fills the sky,
Covering the sun
In a shadow of brown.

The remnants of a fire,
Killing trees and people as it passes.
Sacrificing beauty
As it feeds itself.
Not a bird chirps today,
Not an eagle flies.
I watched as the plumes,
From miles away,
Spread and settled over me.
Killing the beauty of the land
And halting lungs.
A line divides brown and blue
As the sun and sky
Try to return to their former
Glory.

A smoky haze fills the sky
As fire spreads
And conquers.
