Truth's Sweet Song

by Lanaia Lee   Aug 29, 2007

I was caught dancing in the darkness and woods, around a very big fire
I am afraid, of the adults around me, so I pretend I am sick
Hoping no one figures out, because of my fear, I am pretending, I am nothing but a liar
One lie, leads to another, and yet another, too late now to confess to a trick.

Other teen age girls, were seen doing the exact same thing
They too like me are so afraid, we must stick together, in the lie we have weaved
Our lies our pretending, death to the innocent, we would bring
Causing heart ache to others, as over their loved ones, they would grieve.

Lies on top of lies, here in Salem, we never meant for any one to die
But our fear and our lives, would cause us to have blood on our hands
Oh, if only from this place, I could get away, I wish like a bird, from here I could fly
Really we can't admit our sin, our lies of witchcraft have gone too far, witch craft, runs rampant through out the land.

We were just afraid of what our punishment would be
If our peers had found out, we would have been considered to be in direct contact with the devil
But now it is too late to change our story, change our plea
I guess when we die, because of our lies, our fate has been sealed.

We would be responsible for the death of nineteen, of our sisters and brothers
We stand stead fast, pointing out certain people, labeling them as a witch
Standing together, watching others die, for an untruth that was spun against our friends, our brothers
Our souls by evil and fear are forever tainted, watching others take the wrap, as they were accused of being a witch.

We know because of our lies and accusations, our immortal soul is condemned to burn in hell
There is no way now for us to right our horrific wrong
Now this has gone to far, the truth we can never tell
It would be a very long time, before we could sing truth's sweet song.
