The Battle

by Tom Martin   Sep 9, 2007

They come
In their dark robes
Slowly
Chanting in a lost language

Minutes into hours
Seems to take forever
Closer and cloer
Yet in the same place

I could feel it
They were watching me
Feeling my thoughts
Touching my soul

So cold
The touch of their hands
Yet so loving
Is that touch

Then they spoke to me
Scared
How did they know
How could they know

'Embrace the
Beast within
Your soul'
They whispered

My secret
Was no more
I just stood
And stared

'Give in'
They would say
'Join us, brother
Join us'

Desperately I fought
The feeling inside
Welling up
Surfacing

A war had started
Inside me
Man verse beast
Life and death

I remembered friends
Those whre care
The one I love
And I cried

I still cry
Thinking of it
The battle
Still rages on
