Do You Remember When?

by Viola   Sep 13, 2007

It was a warm day, December 31st of 1999
I remember it so well
The memory stuck in my mind
We were out downtown
And city light were shining bright
It was the turn of the century
And everything was just right
We went to that little restaurant
The one my dad took us to
We talked and talked for hours
And made the most of that day
When I think back to it now
Oh I can still hear you laugh
It was a sweet sound
Do you remember that?

My dear friend
It's been so long since the last time
And the years pass us by
But we seem to forget, so ask me why
And I'll tell you all again
That I'll always be your friend
Because the miles can separate us
But I'll call you on the phone
In the middle of the night
Just to ask you one last time
Do you remember when?

All those years ago
We were sitting on my balcony
Just chatting the night away
You told me about that guy
He had gorgeous eyes you said
And I smiled as I looked at you
Cause I just knew
Oh I knew, that he meant the world to you
Then we looked at the clouds
And trying to figure out their shape
You though it was a bunny
But I saw something else
Do you remember that?

My dear friend
It's been so long since the last time
And the years pass us by
But we seem to forget, so ask me why
And I'll tell you all again
That I'll always be your friend
Because the miles can separate us
But I'll call you on the phone
In the middle of the night
Just to ask you one last time
Do you remember when?

I remember when I left that day
The tears flowed down your face
It was painful for me to watch
And even harder to leave
But I made you a promise
And it's one I intend to keep
That I'll always be your best friend
Forever and for always

My dear friend
It's been so long since the last time
And the years pass us by
But we seem to forget, so ask me why
And I'll tell you all again
That I'll always be your friend
Because the miles can separate us
But I'll call you on the phone
In the middle of the night
Just to ask you one last time
Do you remember when?

I'm sitting here writing this poem
And I hope you have forgiven me
Never did I mean to part
But I know one day we'll reunite
I'll make my way back to you
And it'll be just like old times
But that day may take long

So I'll call you on the phone
And I'll write you a letter
Send it in an envelope
Sealed with the hope
That you're doing well tonight
Send it across the seas
Where you'll open it with tears
And the first thing that you'll read
Is my dear friend
Do you remember when?
