Nature's Leader

by Elyse   Sep 27, 2007

Strong and firm it stands upright
Through the storm it holds its own
Never dying, always striving
Even when chilled to the bone

And though at times it looks bare
Color soon will fill the space
Leaves and flowers will begin to grow
Where darkness once held its place

Now as this family grows strong
Forces will try to break it down
Wind will begin to shake the branches
Until leaves fall to the ground

After wards the branches look empty
But in time they all will grow back
For this strong and selfless leader
Will do anything to keep family intact

Creatures live in this war zone
Its home to those who nested
And when they go and hunt for food
They prey their homes protected

Its also used as a gym
Some climb up to the top
But some branches are wet with rain
And some will slip and drop

But it serves a bigger part in this world
For it controls human life
It could kill an entire race
If its leaves don't function right.

If you ever get to hot
It provides instant shade
A safe place it is for a cat
That is being chased

But one day its roots will loose its grip
And though they tried as they could
Gravity will take it down
And sadly fall in the woods

The once powerful leader
Will slowly begin to decay
And give up all its nutrients in hope
Of a better and brighter day.
