Secret Night

by ari   Oct 20, 2007

We lie beneath the stars,
your head cupped in my hands,
our legs tangled together.
I'm catching all the thoughts that are escaping from your eyes,
that you have left unexplained.
I'm learning the reasons why
you can't stop thinking about me.
Every word you don't say makes me fall
even more in love with you.
Thoughts of your silent dreams sing me to sleep,
but I can't say all the
melancholy dreams I've had.
I'll let this ink enter my veins
and I'll slit my wrists so that
I don't have to keep things bottled up inside.
The blood and ink will spell out words of purity
I could never illustrate.
I could never admit that I forgot
what your touch felt like until I was
living the dream.
And that I had to remind myself that
once upon a time,
my name wasn't the only one that sounded so beautiful
falling from your lips.
I had lost myself in illusions of happiness
and lost hope
until I felt your heartbeat beneath my hands.
It's broken rhythm is the harmony to my quickening breaths,
the darkness is blurring the throb of beauty we create.
So tonight it's me, you, and my confessions,
and the stars are winking at each other
through the veil of indigo midnight wears.
They know I'm setting myself free.
