Twas Two Weeks Before Christmas

by kira2   Jan 3, 2008

Twas 2 weeks before Christmas and all thru the house
Tensions were rising - we were all stressed out!

The tree stood naked, sans decorations and lights
We keep repeating the promise "do it tonight!"
The phrase "have you finished your shopping"
Makes me want to cry
I haven't even started
There are dozens to buy

No lights on the house, no wreaths on the door
Our Christmas spirit looks rather poor

Dad in his sweats, mom in hers too
We must get started - there is so much to do

Bring up the boxes, test all the lights
We will be working long into the night

When the decorations are complete
And the tree is well lit
A quick little nightcap
And the bed we will hit

Now on to shopping and shopping and shopping some more
we will shop 'til we hit every store

Time is running out, we must be about done
Shopping mall parking? There is none!

A closet full of presents now that need wrapped
Dozens of bows and gift tags
And - another nightcap

Gifts under the tree
What a sight to see
Plenty of treasure
Ah! What a pleasure

Now on to menu planning, guest lists and dinner
It will take much work to be sure it's a winner

There won't be much baking, but cooking instead
Mom loves to be sure that all are well fed

The table will be sparkling with candles aglow
Food will be plenty and the drinks will flow

There won't be a turkey - last year's was a disaster
Instead Prime Rib of Roast - mom is the master

The day's fast approaching, time is near
Put out the milk and cookies for the reindeer

Kids are excited, but praying for snow
White Christmas in Georgia? May happen - who knows?

Christmas morning arrives
Kids up at five
Don't wake Dad and Mom
Until the break of dawn

Mom goes down first
To put on the coffee
Kids sit on the stairs
And wait anxiously

Dad comes down and lights the fire
Breakfast in the oven, we're down to the wire

Mom yells to the kids "it's time to come down."
"See what Santa brought", they went to town

Opening presents and gasping for joy
"I got everything I wanted - oh boy!"

Mom and Dad glance at each other and sigh
Another Christmas morning just flew by

Clean up the mess and begin cooking dinner
This Christmas morning sure was a winner

Tomorrow will come and the day will be past
We'll do what we can to make Christmas last

We'll call our neighbors and friends
And plan to get together
We'll share stories and leftovers
And have more Christmas cheer

Then a couple nights rest and on to the New Year
Rest? What am I thinking? The party is here!

More lists and food and drink and dacor
Please tell me after this there will be no more.

While it's fun and exciting we're glad that it's past
And the house is back to normal - finally- at last

Then wishes and promises for the new year
And hope that world peace soon will be here

That's what the season's about for me and you;
That our wishes and dreams all will come true

So Merry Christmas, happy holiday and love to my friends
This year has finally come to an end!
