Unrequited Love

by RB   Jan 17, 2008

Dark, sleepless nights and I lay here alone,
Believing your lies for truths,
Allowing myself to be fooled,
As I contemplate our time spent together.

The things I wanted to hear sounded so sweet.
Hypnotized by your charm I could not resist.
With my naive mind and vulnerable heart,
Within lay an intense desire to love.

Passionately I fell into lust,
Throwing myself into your heart.
Playing with the fire in your soul,
I was consumed by your flames.

As shadows of dark secrets lingered in your eyes,
I ignored the knowingness prevailing in my mind,
Instead following my heart's insistence,
I chose to be the fool.

The longest lasting love is love unreturned,
So I will repeatedly break my perfectly good heart,
As I keep coming back for more,
Returning only to feel the pain of unrequited love.

Continuously throwing myself into your heart,
I will proclaim my love for you with no end,
And this unrequited love shall forever be mine,
As soft whispers of I love you are swept into the wind
and disappear...
