In The Shadows Of Longing

by Neil Marsden   Jan 18, 2008

Again taken back to the wind and the howling,
Once more I'm returned to the wild.
Alight and alive amid total destruction,
Alone in the place you last smiled.

Where now the dreams and the wishing well visions,
How far to that star spangled land.
How long will my gaze be cast up to the heavens,
Before being warmed by your hand.

When will tired eyes open to unclouded skies,
That not sadness nor pain can invade.
Where happiness flows from a radiant fountain,
Drenching out light from the shade.

And what will we say when the silence is broken,
When no more can the distance block out.
The love in the words oh so long in the speaking,
The words to place us beyond doubt.

Will we then walk in the shadows of longing,
Oblivious to all that we see.
In a place where the past and the lifetime between us,
Led you slowly but surely to me.

Neil Graham Marsden.
