Sweet Melanie

by John Bowlby   Jan 22, 2008

Sweet Melanie, I sing your song
So sweet, as you are too, my love.
So soft as if to wish upon
A star, the moon, and Heav'n above!

Sweet Melanie, I sing your song
With hope and praise; my love I sing
Your song with passion, love so strong!
Your song I sing with pride must ring!

Alas you cannot hear your song,
For you are far, and I am here;
Alone, and not where I belong,
And as I write this I do tear.

For hearts should not be torn apart
As such in anguish! Such in tears!
I leave you so, as I depart
To live, and tarry on my years.
