On the Eve of Never

by PoetsPromise   Jan 28, 2008

On the eve of never;
I thought it would be you forever.

Thought I may; thought I might
but it wasn't worth the fight.

Wind that blew; blew out my sails.
All that felt sacred did not prevail.

I hailed you at the highest esteem.
But things aren't always what they seem.

And though my heart did break a while.
A breakthrough came with a smile.

I wish you well when you come to mind
Dreams are no longer the crying kind.

Although I sometimes wonder how I was so blind
You always reminded me we had no ties that bind.

I wish you had told me that before.
Before my heart wanted more.

But when you did tell it was too late.
My heart had found it's restless fate.

Playing with fire was what I did.
Making for myself a futures bid.

But burning for you that way,
left me scars in the game you play.

That breakthrough smile was well deserved.
But now my heart I will reserve.
