Does anyone have a pet rat?

Today i just bought a domestic rat and i know nothing about them. I was told they are fun but it just sits there in the corner and it wont eat much it only ate a bit of kfc chicken and that was it. it wont climb its ladder or run on its treadmill. If anyone has one can someone advise me.

None of my rats have ever enjoyed running on a wheel, they are more of a social pet, they like being pet and held, which you should try to do on a regular basis because they can turn mean.

I have a pet rat. You just have to treat it like a child: feed it, pay attention to it, and don't kill it.

The chicken probably made him feel sick, lol. He's probably just nervous. You need to spend a fair bit of time letting him get used to you and his new surroundings.

And seriously, I wouldn't recommend getting fast food for your pet. :)

Yeah I spoiled my last pet rat with "treats", he got pretty fat lol He did however live 4 years, which is pretty good. Like everyone else said, attention, none of my rats have ran on a wheel either, they wouldn't even run around in those balls you can get for them. They like tunnels, burrowing and of course being out on your shoulder and free to roam your person.

Just let it get used to life with you - your rat won't necessarily be an amazing pet at first.

If anything persists, ask a pro - be it someone at the pet store, or a veterinarian.

And for the love of christ, don't give your rat fast food. That's not a good habit to get into at all.

Oh, like Jordan said don't feed him KFC. Humans shouldn't even be eatting that crap.

I used to have mice....but my last one died a couple years ago, it was depressing

All fast food is garbage food. It's disgusting. I'm a raw food vegan. So, I'm not very partial.

You're kidding....right? What would you call it? Healthy? 'Cause it definitely isn't....which technically makes it crap...whether it tastes delicious or not.

Yes, he was cute and he was a piggy. Now, he's a pig. But he uses a litter box so it's all good.
