I imagine for the same reasons some people worship God, they're looking for something more, too each their own. I don't think most people actually know what Satanism is.

Nope. Most people don't. In fact, most people don't know that there's several kinds of Satanism:

    1. Worshipping Satan. Some do it just to be cool, some are quite serious.
    2. A DaLevey Satanist, which is actually more a belief of "I am my own God". I don't know much about that, type in Google for more details.
    3. An "atheist" kind of Satanist. Just someone who is extremely against Christianity. They pretty much don't believe either way. Like me, I guess.

Well, most Christians are automatically biased against so-called Satanism. Again, stupidity wins. They don't really know what they're talking about.

Many pagan's get thrown in this catagory, but from my beliefs I feel its a way for Christians to discourage a sort of rival belief.

But sometimes the reason is because, they envoriment they grow up in.
I mean i know some people that started out life as christians but at one point they felt like God betrayed them time after time
so they just thought satan was the way to go

Or pure pesure (can't spell)....people end up in the wrong crowd and they start to just follow the wrong people with could lead to satan

You don't go over to Satanism by going around with Satanists. It doesn't quite work like that...if you're brought up a Christian and you constantly question everything you may eventually go to atheism, then eventually to Satanism. There's no such thing as a "Satanist environment". You get freedom, unlike in Christian places where you can't go five steps without getting Bibles everywhere.

There is a proof that God doesn't exist. Read the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. :p

(Let's see how many people fall for that one...)

We all wonder what the hell is out there. and i must say that its totally confusing. i dont know what 2 belive, cuz if i dont belive in a god i might have bad consequenses later on. but if i do, im ganna have 2 be good all the time and (well not really) its ganna feel like im being judged my whole life by a stronger being. and that just deosnt feel comfertable! i wanna be independant. no judging please! and with beliving or not, deos that go into the situation of Heaven of Hell??

im on the fence. idk what 2 belive. i guess u can say im open 2 possibilities and think there are plenty mericles (idk if i spelled that right) in life.

Ok, I'm just rethinking this...firstly, there is no Heaven. That is certain. Is there Hell? Quite possibly, it's the world around us. Hell is described as "the most terrible and torturous place imaginable". That's crap - you can't have an "ultimate terror". Cos after a while, you'd get used to it. So that rules that one out.

Actually once you get over 16 or so you start to get a better grasp of these things. Sort of. I hope. :p
There is no afterlife. When you die...nothing happens. You simply cease to exist. You are what you were BEFORE you were born. Simple.

I'm under the impression that this "stronger being" isn't really around anymore. Guess he did a bunk.
And no - there aren't any miracles. They're coincidences. Call them miracles if you want. It's all an illusion.

Anyway, absolutely nothing wrong with agnosticsm. :p

I don't think a disbelief in God implies a belief in Satan... which makes me think that it's weird to tie atheists in with Satanists. People who worship Satan are still buying into a worldview that contains God... they're just "choosing a different side," I'd guess. I will agree with the poster who said that a lot of people claiming to be Satanists don't really know or understand what they claim to believe in. Unfortunately, the same often goes for Christianity and all other religions.

As for why someone would worship Satan, I don't know. If you have a picture of Satan as a being who is purely evil, manipulative, and distorting, then that would be an odd choice for a role model. I've heard a self-proclaimed Satanist who said that Satanism was just following in the footsteps of Lucifer, in that everyone should have the freedom to be individualistic, rebellious, territorial, sensual, greedy, and powerful to their hearts' content. It's a tempting picture. However, if you follow a being who fits that description, they're not going to offer you any of their power or safety. They.. assuming there is a they... would treat you with the same cruel apathy with which you wish to treat others. Not a happy picture, overall.

In general, I just think people should love. They can do drugs, have sex, be angry, I don't care. But when people treat their fellow humans with dignity and care and humor, that's when living becomes worthwhile.

But this is so confusing! i mean, ok so God didnt make the bible, man did. so there are a bunch of different stories out there! and if u read just one, its crap! cuz there are more then 1. and ppl are still writing bibles, and i asume that a lot of information comes off the internet. and the internet can be FILLED with lies and things that are overdone. so. what bible do we fallow? why do we even have one? to say what god said? no. because god is not the one that came down 2 earth (jesus, and who even knows if he did!?! cuz that was so friggen long ago and stories get flipped over time. so who the hell knows) [lol back 2 my point] to tell us what 2 do. this will be a never ending topic! cuz its so long ago! and we dont know. cuz were the ones that is living now. in the CRAP economies.

Wait, what are you confused about? I can't tell what your question is. Are you still asking about satanism, or are you now wondering why people believe in God/follow the Bible?

In Luciferian philosophy, Satan is not a real entity, but and ideal, the symbol of personal liberty. Emphasis is put on the quality of being an individual, personal growth and human potential. There are no pacts, sacrifices, or criminal behaviors accepted or encouraged.

Traditional Satanism is a little less common and they do believe Satan is a deity, though not necessarily evil. They don't do black magic or make sacrifices.

Then there are those who pose and try to be what they think the world's view of a true satanist is. These are usually the ones getting picked up for crimes, trying to dabble in magic and curses, make pacts and sacrifices.

I think all religions have something to offer and I personally like learning about all of them, it is fascinating. It is amazing how much strength and power we can muster as a people to rise up and defend our faiths and yet as a global society, we watch the world crumble, if only we could have that passion and drive for everything in life.

Sibyllene: About worshipping Satan as an ultimate evil...there are plenty of reasons. A lot of people LOVE to be evil. Not murder and such...but they would pray to an evil deity as such for the same reason why you would want to choose a evil-aligned character in World of Warcraft or similar games. :p Worshipping a good god wouldn't really make sense.

  • adriaan

True, but there are some who go around calling themself satanists when they are actually atheists at heart, the reason being that they hate the opposite of satanism. (If that makes sense)
Obviously not all atheists are like that, of course. Just a rare handful or so.
