This will either fail miserably or be very successful. At first I thought making a post targeting my lovely self would make me seem incredibly egotistic... then I realized, Wait Jane, You are incredibly egotistic.

I've been on here about 5 years, I assume a good amount of you know me, especially the mods. The mods adore me, it's true. But never ask one, because they will tell you lies! Lies!
    Kidding.

Anyway, ask me something. Anything. I am interested in all things.
For those of you with a personal vendetta, this is your opportunity to catch me on my own without club members to rush to my defense!

Interestingly enough, I was working at a racetrack (Golden Gate Fields) as an Assistant Veterinarian, when the Barbaro drama was going down.

A Thoroughbred racehorse's breeding focuses on its anatomy for speed, not durability. Long thin leg bones support the body weight of a large horse, and most importantly, the substantial pressure of the horse moving forward rapidly. Accidents happen every day in racing. A horse steps wrong and its leg is shattered. No leg, no horse.

It is to my belief that Barbaro did not use up all his energy on the false break. False breaks happen all the time in racing. No one had any cause for concern, so Barbaro was reloaded and the race began. There would have been outcry if Barbaro was pulled from the race after making such an impact in history at the Kentucky Derby. He had not competed for 5 weeks prior to the Derby, which is the longest any horse had gone before the big race in FIFTY years. The horse held promise for a Triple Crown victory.
Right now, the racing industry is failing rapidly in the tough economy of today. Trainers and owners talk endlessly of finding another Seabiscuit to win back the crowds of horse racing. Everyone is looking for that new hero among racehorses. The importance of promoting the industry overrules the importance of safety for the horses. After all, racing is by no means a safe sport. The love of the race is bigger than the love of the horse.

In hindsight, anyone can say Barbaro should've been pulled from the race, but as I said, there would have been a public outcry at the time... a whole bunch of hoola-baloo. Whatever it's called.

Hope that lengthy response answered your questions, otherwise WOOPS!

Lol, I find it funny how people seem to run with good ideas that others (such as myself) had. In this case an "Ask" me anything type thread. Interesting really, but oh well it's a free world. ;]

Okay, so now for my question...If you could change one thing about yourself what would it be and why?

  • silvershoes

Yes Joe, you are an inventor of brilliant, innovative ideas. I think, if other people think like me, that most people didn't make a thread like this because they thought it would be against the rules somehow. But since a mod made the first "Ask me" thread, it feels a bit safer to make one's own.
I made one because I got jealous and I wanted to be the center of attention.

If I could change one thing about me... Since I honestly believe I can change anything internal about myself, and I have the complete power to be who I want to be, I'll have to go with something physical.
I was going to say I'd make my skin flawless or get a different nose, but I'm going to be more original and sayheyhey..

I'd change my lack of super powers.

That's a tough question. And an awesome answer, I might add.

I know Russell Baze on a first name basis. He's a very nice guy! Always smiling and always going somewhere REALLY FAST. Usually I get a, "Hi Ja--," and the rest of my name trails off because he's already a mile away.

Russell Baze is setting the standard for jockeys. In most sports, there is a breakthrough athlete that forces everyone else to take themselves more seriously and work harder than they previously thought possible. There will be jockeys determined on breaking Baze's records, such as South American jockey Jorge Ricardo (who briefly stole the all time lead for career leads sometime this year before Baze stole it back May 16) and someone will surely be successful someday. Once jockeys begin catching up to Mr. Baze's efficiency, his records will become standard, and then another 'Baze-like prodigy' will step up and take the standard heaps higher! Anyway, that's my belief. I could very well be wrong, and often am.
There has actually been some complaint about Baze along the lines of, "He is not the most talented jockey and he wins as much as he loses, but because he races SO OFTEN, his wins amount to higher than any other jockey's wins."
I think the guy is on speed. He's super human.

    Good question.

The only time I dislike anyone is when I'm in a foul mood, otherwise I can't be bothered with the negativity of disliking.

I like all the mods, for the most part, but sometimes the lot of you annoy me. As do my club members. I realize I have stepped into arguments with mods as many times as anyone else in my club, but as many times as I have argued, I have looked at members from my club and wished that they would shut up! The bickering between our club and the mods has gone on for such a long time and I wish it would be a friendly family feud instead of some nasty-intentioned, ill-humored constant battle for the upper hand. It seems we're all quick to take the offensive and the defensive and paranoia comes into play frequently. Perhaps you think we have it out for you. Perhaps we think you have it out for us. It probably wavers in the intensity we both think such things. Most of us likely feel silly for caring sometimes, and feel like it's silly not to care other times.
I'd like to be able to argue with everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, without them thinking its a personal vendetta. Because it certainly isn't a personal vendetta.

I cannot speak for anyone in my club, and though I have my opinions of their opinions, I will keep them to myself, because it's really none of my business-- however I can inform you that we are all very different people, we just happen to like each other quite a bit. Actually, I adore all my lovely club members. But as I was saying, we agree on some things, but certainly not all things.

As for your opinions on Baze and the question pumpkin asked, do you really believe that Baze is one in infinity? How do you think he's made it to where he is? Surely someone will repeat his course and surpass him... eventually.

[Wow, I really know how to ramble!]

P.S. Right now I am crossing my fingers that this thread doesn't turn into another terminator/moderator fight. Please club members stay out of this thread unless you're going to ask ME a question! Same with you, mods. Please.

  • silvershoes

Haha, I sure went on for a while without giving a proper answer, didn't I? Woopsies!
    Well, I really can't speak for anyone in my club. It's not a matter of I won't, thought I wouldn't, but I really can't.
    If that makes any sense...
I think, as humans, any one of us terms and mods could have a different answer for you, Bob, varying from minute to minute. This very minute, I am going to guess that: no one in my club gives a rat's ass if the mods like us or not, but would prefer that they did. Though I can't know for sure.

I will let you get away with that flip flopper comment. I don't care enough to NOT let you get away with it.
So sure, I flip flop. You should see me in the water. Mad skills.

Course riding a bike is not very similar to being a jockey actually. Try squatting on the ground with your arms out in front of you clutching a rope. Rest both heels on the floor but do NOT fall over backwards! Your butt should be a couple inches from the ground and your shoulders raised high so you can look under your armpits to see behind you every couple seconds. Your back should be hunched. Now. Imagine your feet being held up by tiny 1" metal bars. One metal bar beneath the ball of each foot. All of your weight rests on your knees and therefore these tiny metal bars. Imagine an up and down motion that is pretty steady and your arms are being pulled forward and back. Forward with each up motion, back with each down motion. Sometimes this motion jerks suddenly and then it resumes, but you always have to be prepared for the jerk. Sometimes a big, powerful body will bash into one of your sides and knock you off balance. Imagine the ground beneath you blurred into a dizzying rushing river-like effect. You clutch a whip in one hand and have to swing your arm back to give a good whack every now and then, while switching both reins into one hand within half an eye-blink. Resume holding the reins, all the while slowly tightening up on the bit... making your horse go faster, and keeping an eye on all the horses around you, their behaviors, the actions of hands and feet and eyes of every jockey, looking for a hole, watching out for flailing hooves! You're going about 40mph or so and dirt is flying into your face but you can't bother wiping it away.
I imagine being a jockey is much more difficult than course riding a bike, and it probably feels like you're going faster on the horse as well.
And I'm not really pulling that out of my ass. I have horses and motorcycles.
    Both are fun!

Is it legal for you to ride without a helmet? It's illegal in this state.

This is your opportunity to catch me on my own without club members to rush to my defense!"

Lol.. Ok here's a question why should they come to your defence? That's what I don't understand... Why not defend your own opinion along with the consequences of your opinions... Wouldn't that actually say something about your club?

  • silvershoes

Actually, that comment was to condescend the belief that we ever do rush to each other's defense. By making a thread targeting me, I am in a way, though not a very big way, exemplifying that I do not need anyone else to defend my opinion but me.
It's funny that because my club members and I agree on some things, we have been subjected to false claims of blindly defending each other's ideas or opinions. Really, it's quite simple. We agree on some things. When we do, maybe it seems that we're massing into a unit, but actually, we're a group of individuals AGREEING. We disagree too.

"Wouldn't that actually say something about your club?"
I think already too much has been said about my club, and frankly, most of it is off the wall. And just as our club has changed and continues to change, the opinions people have of our club should change and continue to change - but unfortunately, minds can be stupidly stubborn.

Now, if you don't mind, ask me something that doesn't involve this ongoing, tedious feud...?

  • silvershoes

I am the queen of rambling...
Man, I am in a such a bad mood right now. I always let my dog off leash when I take him for his 10pm walk and never run into anyone (or any dogs). Tonight I ran into a guy and his dog. My dog listens to me 999 out of 1,000 times, but tonight was that ONE time he decided to disobey my commands. He ignored me when I called his name. I ran to leash him and intercept the oncoming dog fight - potential fight - and during this process of intercepting and leashing, the guy with his dog was repeating over and over in a really stern voice, "Leash. Leash. Leash. Leash. Leash." Who does that? I apologized profusely and told him I never bump into anyone else while walking my dog at night, but it was very irresponsible of me regardless, and he came back with some snide remark like, "You have to have your dog on a leash." I said sorry one more time then grumbled off with my dog. I don't know who I'm more angry at!! My dog for being a huge brat and embarrassing me, myself for not having my dog leashed to begin with, or this stranger who was scolding me like some insolent kid.

    BLAH!

    Jane.

When you visited Edinburgh a few years back, and told me you were in a cafe using the internet, was it because you wanted some Scottish love, or just because you needed someone to translate for you?

Also, if you owned this website, how different would it be...and h'why?

    Haha, ugh.

Ok, I'm sorry! I'm sorry everyone, I will try not to ramble. Sometimes I think I'm talking to a bunch of half-wits so I go on and on and on hoping that at least ONE way of explaining myself will make sense. But maybe I'm being extra confusing.

Anyway, STOP. Stop. I was about to ramble again.

I'm not answering that first question, Kevin, you prick.

-If I owned this website... Pretty much everything in the feedback & suggestions forum would be instilled...
example1: Club owners would have the ability to lock & delete threads in their clubs.
example2: Italicizing, bolding, various fonts, accents, etc. would be allowed.
-The mods would be different - not all of them, mind you.
-There's a certain member I would suspend irrevocably.
-I would take the weekly contest more seriously and only allow the finest quality poems to grace the front page.
-The layout would most likely be different. None of this bland pale-ish pink.

Other stuff. I'd take suggestions to heart.

  • silvershoes

    "would you be a mod...?"

If I thought I could do a better job... yeah. Why would I take that the wrong way?
    You can exhale now.

"What kind of dog do you have, and whats it's name? And why on EARTH do you go for a 10pm walk alone?"
I have 2 dogs (one is my neighbor's, but nobody seems to remember that, including the dog who is absolutely in love with me).
Diggy: I think he's rhodesian ridgeback and greyhound. He's dark brown with some black hair mixed in, has the stream-line body of a greyhound, a tail that could break your arm when it's wagging, a biggish jaw like a pitbull, and intense pale amber eyes.
Luciano (aka Lu): He's a mutt. Medium-sized, fluffy white with a curly tail. I think he's akita, chow chow, and lab. Maybe part piglet. He howls a lot, hence his name Luciano (the opera singer) -- this is the dog I was walking last night that acted like a brat. He's actually really intelligent and obedient, but he has his moments of being naughty.

I don't like Lu to poop in our backyard, so I take him on 2 walks a day - 4pm and 10pm. Diggy comes on the daily 4pm walk.
My neighborhood is a bit dangerous, I live right on the outskirts of Oakland (maybe you've heard of it?), but I wear a leather jacket with the hood up and running shoes. I carry pepper spray and a knife too.
A wiser me would not go walking at night with no company but a dog, but I am not a wiser me. I like to do things when I like to do them, and I figure I'm as scary as anyone else wandering around at 10pm. I'm not a petite, fragile thing, and my dog does bite.

  • silvershoes

Yes, well I live right on the border of Oakland. Half of my street is in Oakland... not my half, but it's pretty easy to cross over :) Crime is high. Scary things have happened right near my house, I can think of 2 pretty horrifying stories off the top of my head. I won't tell them unless someone asks.
Regardless, Oakland is my hometown. Gotta have love for your hometown.

I can't think of what irritates me most about this website. I'll get back to you on that.
    Oh. OBVIOUSLY.

    Takes one to know one.

    Best costume party theme ever:
    "P" Party
(You have to dress as anything starting with a "P." Examples: pirate, poop, prince, peanut, pickle, princess, part-time sales rep, president, pocahontas, porcupine, prisoner, partridge...)

It's a brilliant idea and has been the foundation of many a belligerent night.

It's funny how my first question seem to answer itself just by the progression of posts...Lol

Here's a question: Do you think this site would have been better without the formation of your club? And if (god forbid) you answer no... do you think that the actions taken place would have occured without the mob mentality shown after the establishment of your club?

  • silvershoes

    "Who is Pumpkin? Bob?"

    Yes indeed. Good guess.

"Jane have you been in contact with Liz's mum of late and have you completed your great OE"

Unfortunately I have not spoken to Sarah since I sent her a necklace a couple months ago. Would you like me to do, say, or ask something?
I have no idea what an OE is... oz experience? If so, then yes and no. I'm back home but I'm trying to figure out a way to get back to Oz before my work visa runs up at the end of Feb 2010. At the same time, I'm trying to organize a roundtrip around South America.

"Here's a question: Do you think this site would have been better without the formation of your club? And if (god forbid) you answer no... do you think that the actions taken place would have occured without the mob mentality shown after the establishment of your club?"

I don't know the answer to this question nor does the question interest me, sorry to say. I would rather not wallow in old news. That, and I don't know why you - being neither mod nor club member - express so much interest in the subject. It's almost as if you like getting involved in the mess.

On a final note, my club members have not come to my rescue... But so far two people have mocked them for doing so. Who chooses to cling onto such bitterness? You only make yourselves look bad, and I shouldn't be the one to inform of you of that. You should all know better.

If you really need to be slapped in the face with some reality, here are the questions my members have posted so far:

When you visited Edinburgh a few years back, and told me you were in a cafe using the internet, was it because you wanted some Scottish love, or just because you needed someone to translate for you?

Also, if you owned this website, how different would it be...and h'why?

    ---------
Now, if that doesn't make clear that no one is coming to my rescue OR bringing up past disagreements - I don't know what does.

    Any more questions? : )

Oh wait. Damn. Here I go again... Going on and on.
I just want to say one more thing!
If we were such a tightly bound, close-minded, egotistic little bunch... we wouldn't try so hard to get more people to join our club. We don't like having the black sheep image branded to us as a group or individually. We just like to have fun and make sure justice is superseding abuse of power. Somehow that turned into a big, ugly mess. Two strong-minded bunches of people disagreeing, one group with power, one without. Really, that's what it was. And now there's no cause for anyone to disagree. I hope everyone overcomes their bitterness so we can have fun, respectfully. Unless it's playful disrespect (as you can see, Abby called me "daghead," but fortunately I know she is joking).

The end. And now... any more questions?
I'm going to bed. Nighty night.

Jane, if you could have one wish that would be granted true (whether it be sensible or not) what would it be and why?

Do you remember the debate about the Death Penalty that Liz started? Going back to that topic, what is your honest opinion on it? Are you for it? Against it? Undecided? Why or why not?

What are you thoughts on Acorn bringing foward a lawsuit against Hanna Giles for 5 million dollars for the videos she brought forth about cheating the IRS, work-arounds for starting a prostitution ring and importing underaged girls, and so forth?

  • silvershoes

"so my question today involves a more serious tone, do you think people should always leash their dogs when going outside the house (and be held responsible totally for any mishap if they don't) or should some dogs leash the people......hmmmm, I can actually see that. My dog has far more sense then I do, and they never miss the spot where they are peeing"

Legally, everyone should have their dogs on a leash... but that's not the question you asked, so that doesn't count. I think all dogs should be allowed off leash. Like the good ol' days. The other night if that other dog was off leash, Lu and he could've sniffed each other, exchanged some growls, maybe gotten in a brawl, then a hierarchy would've been established... and everyone could've carried on. I think animals are babied and people are paranoid. It's sickening.
But yeah yeah, ok, some dogs run off if they aren't leashed. Some dogs are vicious brutes and some are tiny little rat-like creatures (in my book, chihuahuas are rodents). Alright, here's my decision. A dog being on or off leash should be entirely the owner's responsibility... so if you've got a good dog and you let him off leash, more power to you. If you've got a naughty dog and you let him off leash and he attacks a stranger, well good luck. Your ass is getting sued or locked up.
I don't know. I shouldn't be the one to make these decisions. I'm a flip-flopper, as Bob eloquently put.
I think MY dog should be allowed off leash :(

"if you could have one wish that would be granted true (whether it be sensible or not) what would it be and why?"

I would wish that Liz be brought back and live a long, healthy, happy life. Why? Because she was a vibrant, spirited, intelligent gift to this world and a lot of us would be happier if she was still around. She deserved a full life, as much or more than anyone I know.
Or I'd wish for 5 million wishes. But nobody ever allows that.

"Do you remember the debate about the Death Penalty that Liz started? Going back to that topic, what is your honest opinion on it? Are you for it? Against it? Undecided? Why or why not?"

Yes, I do. My honest opinion is that death is not much of a penalty for a murderer or any kind of person that's participated in awful crimes. I'm more for torture and letting bad people lay to rot in a dank prison cell. At the same time, I hate that our taxes go to feeding and supporting criminals. I know in that very old thread we talked about the expenses of the death penalty and the expenses of keeping someone alive, and I know they were both fairly high, but I can't remember which was deemed higher? Prisoners should have to work to feed themselves and if they can't, too bad. Die. It really depends how bad the crime is too.
I don't know. I'm not God. It makes me nervous having the choice of life or death for someone I've never met.
Joe, do you remember Liz's opinion?

"What are you thoughts on Acorn bringing foward a lawsuit against Hanna Giles for 5 million dollars for the videos she brought forth about cheating the IRS, work-arounds for starting a prostitution ring and importing underaged girls, and so forth?"

I'll get back to this question.

"What do you truly want to do with your life? Where you're at right now, is that where you pictured yourself?"

Oooh, deep questions. Ok, if I wrote out everything I want to do with my life, I'd be rambling... even for me. I'll try to be brief-ish.
I want to go back to school and apply for Equine Veterinary school then work at a racetrack and travel the world treating and training horses. I want to write numerous books and get them published. I want to find a great husband, have a family of 3 or more kids (but that's in at least 5-10 years). I want to climb Everest, sail across an ocean with proper sailors, be a medic or part of the airforce (I already have an army fighter jet suit from a army/navy surplus store), own a ranch with heaps of animals, ride an ostrich, skydive, go hot-air ballooning... I'm going to stop here before I get ahead of myself.
Right now, I am living at home with my parents. Jobless. I did not see myself here, but I didn't really see myself anywhere. I never make plans, you see. I just kinda go with it.
Things should change soon. I will find a job, things will get rolling, I'll make money and move out and buy a puppy or I'll make money and head back to Australia before my visa runs up.. Or I'll. I don't know. I may even go to school in the Spring. Blehhh.

"Also if given the opportunity what country would you live in?"

Maybe Thailand. For now. Or New Zealand. Or England. Or Scotland. Ooh, I have to choose?
England. I'll save living in other countries for later down the road...

To be quiet honest, I don't really remember if she gave an opinion or not, she wanted us to give her what we thought. If I remember correctly she was writing a paper on it.

hrmm as for some more questions...

You ride Bareback or with a Saddle? Why do you prefer that way?

Favorite place you've ever been outside the country?

    Car, Suv, or Truck? Why?

    Fish or Chicken?

"You ride Bareback or with a Saddle? Why do you prefer that way?"

I rode bareback all my life until I got my horse Smokey Joe. I ride him with a saddle 4/5 times and he's the only horse I prefer riding with a saddle. He has a boney back and when he gets spooked, he blows up into a whirlwind of terror and it's almost impossible to stay on. I can stay on most horses when they have bucking fits, but Smokey is a freak. It's impossible to fall off with a saddle.
I prefer bareback because it allows the rider to be more in tune with the horse. The horse can feel your muscles tense and relax and lean different directions, and you can feel the horse's muscles do the same. Bareback is a lot more comfortable for the horse too.. a cinch holding the saddle on is almost like a girdle (my opinion only).

"Favorite place you've ever been outside the country?"

Thailand. I've loved most countries that I've traveled through, but Thailand is my idea of paradise.

    "Car, Suv, or Truck? Why?"

Car & truck. Car for most means of transportation & truck to pull a trailer. I want a really old, dinged up truck (but with a nice new engine so it won't guzzle gas too terribly). I don't really care what kind of car, just nothing too expensive or bubbly.

    "Fish or Chicken?"

My dad makes the driest chicken ever, I can't stand it, otherwise chicken is pretty good.. but I'm going to have to go with fish. Salmon, yummay. SUSHI! Yummay-er.

    "Red or white wine?"

I've switched over to white wine recently. I like the looks of red better & it's better for you, but white is much more delicious!

"If you could rewind time, would you? Why or why not?"

If I could also fast forward it and not have to erase all my memories I've made since the time I rewind back to, then yes. I wouldn't want to go all the way back a few years to change a thing or two then have to relive EVERYTHING. That would be frustrating. And then if I decide that I don't like the changes I've made, I can always rewind and go back to how it was at first, right? :P
Why? Because I could possibly prevent a lot of bad things from happening, lessen the likelihood of them happening, and make better choices for myself.

"Do you have a job yet?"
Shut up, jerk. I'm going to rob you.

OE "overseas experience" but you got my drift anyway. Must say I miss Oz as well and looking forward to getting back there!
Re Liz, no real reason just interested that's all.

I'm assuming here, "train in Thailand" did you end up back with your boy?
Or is that too close to the bone?

Bob, you have three accounts, you old devil? I recognised you from your writing style alone...very distinctive.

Jane, do you think you have a trademark writing style? How important are words to you? How's Serena going?

"I'm assuming here, "train in Thailand" did you end up back with your boy?

Thanks for reading my poem :)
I did write "Train in Thailand" on a train in Thailand, thinking about an ex boyfriend, Jeff, that I was with for 3 years. We broke up 2 years ago (or so) so I hardly think about him anymore, but now and again - for instance, on that train in Thailand - I might have a breakdown. Actually, I haven't had one since I wrote the poem.
I don't know which boy you're talking about when you say "back with your boy," haha. I'm kind of a floozy! You might be talking about Lewis or Ruben? I did get back with Ruben after my SE Asia excursion, but only for a week before I came home :) All for the best, really!

"Jane, do you think you have a trademark writing style? How important are words to you? How's Serena going?"

Is rambling a trademark style? No, I don't think I have one. I'm sort of an imitator with everything... writing, singing... I don't have my own voice, I don't know why. I'm inconsistent.
I would say selene (Serena!? Sheesh! Get it right!) has a different voice than me, but we're the same person. I haven't done much with that account for a while.
I'm also a very terrible judge of self; of what sounds good or bad. I'm not my best fan or my worst critic... My impression of myself comes from feedback from others. Is that how most people are?
I love words but I don't know how important they are to me. Sometimes I'm jealous of animals for communicating without them.
Err.. I don't know if this is related but: Because I understand different sides and points of view and why people feel one way or another, I hardly ever have an unchanging, firm opinion. It can be aggravating.

" 'What are you thoughts on Acorn bringing foward a lawsuit against Hanna Giles for 5 million dollars for the videos she brought forth about cheating the IRS, work-arounds for starting a prostitution ring and importing underaged girls, and so forth?'

I'll get back to this question."

That question still stands...as for some more:

Do you believe in an afterlife? Such as Heaven and Hell?

At what point in your life would you like to see yourself married?

Do you want kids? If so, How many?

What is one poem that has the deepest impact on you and why?

How long have you been riding?

Where do you wish to live when you have a family of your own? Will you stay in CA or move somewhere else? Why?

    Favorite movie and why?

I did read, and I did see that, she said "3 or more" well what does more comprise of? 5, 6, 10, etc. there must be a limit to where she would stop.

Your photo is pretty but very pixelated. Is it on purpose? Would you change your avatar to a close-up shot of your elbow skin with blue and red filters? I think it would look fantastic and have been meaning to do it for some time. Please do it for me?
