Introduce Chat

At one point in time, Janis actually asked me to make a new chat with many precautionary functions (such as the one Jane mentioned), but at the time, the other mods decided against it, and ultimately it got crushed.

If Janis (as I know he is working on stuff at the moment) decides with the current mods to re-enforce the chat, then if be needed, I would still offer my hand in helping program it.

But, like many things on this site, such implementations can't be done without coding rights or for that matter Janis present and active.

My old account used to be alive when chat was there.

As said it was hard to moderate... Chat mods were around but they didn't have enough power in the actual chat rooms. Also for a Chat room to be run well it needs a mod in there 95% of the time. The problem with this is finding That many people who would log in to make sure things in the chat are going fine. People who wouldn't abuse their powers, who would follow their own rules and all that other jazz.

I feel like, with the current situation, that this would ultimately fail because if someone (joe) was to code it and to send it to janis to implement it, if there was a problem anywhere in it... It would wind up a lot like the site and not get fixed...
Some might say thats fine but as a chat room things are happening right then and there.

What if there is a security issue?

Janis has coding rights

What if we needed more chat mods

Sounds small but what if there are no mods on and there is a spammer, child predator, or a fight going on......

People change and the site is changing.... With or without the owner. As the site grows different things will be needed to keep the chat up to date and...

AS much as I want... SO MUCH... for the chat feature to come back...
I feel like it just isn't for the best of the site as a whole right now. And i feel like it isn't whats needed...

I really don't know why i put my 2 cents in this thread... And im sure most of my points are invalid... But unless we can protect our members from everything that could happen i don't think its the right thing to do right now.
Maybe in the future?...

Edit: I was just thinking about something about what another site did...
if 5 or more members voted within a set time, someone could be taken off the chat for a certain amount of time...

The only downside to this is it could be easily abused.
Maybe you could make it where its "earned"... Or maybe it could be something that you could take away...

Anyways thats going more into coding. So sorry lol.
