In 1969 Maurice White (19 December 1941 - 4 February 2016) and his brother Verdine, both from Memphis Tennessee, started one of the most successful bands of all time: Earth, Wind and Fire. Over the decades Maurice and EW&F have received numerous Grammys and American Music Awards. Maurice, individually, his band and two of his songs have all been inducted into the Rock 'N' Roll Hall of Fame: "That's the Way of the World" and "Shining Star."
The world lost a great musical innovator this month and a great poet as well.
