Poet of the Fortnight #4: Shruti (June 26 - July 10)

Time. I have lost time. I was in a friendship that turned out to be so fake and bad. I went through depression for it. So I have lost great time in it.

The poem False December I guess.

Oh no Sir, I don't think I have such great poise and depth. It should be because I'm quite nervous in answering these questions...

Nervous or not, you're giving us a lot to consider. I love your answers.

Question #5: What songs have you completely memorized?

Question #6: What hobby would you get into if time and money weren’t an issue?

Question #7: What have you only recently formed an opinion about?

  • Shruti replied to silvershoes

There are many songs that I've memorized.. To name a few... Breathe by Taylor Swift, She's a monster, This Star and Sign by GOT7, First snow by EXO, Begin again, All too well, Enchanted by Taylor Swift.

    Playing Violin.

That I love college. It has been just three weeks and I like it. I thought I would not be able to survive there without my friends. I do miss their company, but it did not turn out to be the nightmare that I thought it would be.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years time?

  • Larry Chamberlin replied to Shruti

    But you missed the question:
Please, tell us about your formative influences. By that I don't mean what made you a good poet, but what experiences, and your reactions to them, led to who you are now

The violin is a great instrument. Oh and I have to admit I like Taylor Swift too :)

Question #8: What is the best way to explore human nature: psychology, philosophy, or biology?

Question #9: What is the purpose of art in society?

Question #10: If you were given an envelope with the the time and date of your death inside, would you open it?

Maybe I'll be counselling someone or teaching in a college. ^_^

There are two things that had a big impact on my thoughts, my perspective, and me.
One is this friendship that I really cared about (I don't care if that person sees this and thinks I'm lying). Many things happened, and some on this site itself. So it was a huge drama...for me at least. What I want to say is, it did not go well, but I've learned a lot from it. It changed my thoughts and my perspective.
I learned to not judge someone by how they appear to be, I learned to read between lines, I learned to appreciate things more, and above all, I started writing poems. Well, along with this, I also learned to not be so gullible...and give in so easily.

Umm the second thing is... I have Vitiligo. The condition that causes depigmentation and makes your skin white in patches.
I first discovered I have it when I was 6 years old. We showed to the doctor. And my parents told me to hide it from everyone. When people asked, I was told to say that it was just a bruise or something like that.
When I used to be with my friends and if a person with this skin condition passed by, they used to make fun of him or call him a ghost or something like that.
I felt bad...hurt... I feared more to reveal to my friends that I too suffer from this condition.
But it changed my perspective. Maybe I would have also thought like that if I did not have this disease...

    That's all. Thank you :).

    Psychology, I believe.
Not because I want to study it; but I want to study it since I believe it is the best way to explore human nature.
Biology is mainly about the physical and external structure of living beings. It also have the study of behaviours, but that's not its main matter.
Philosophy is logic. Explaining life and it's purposes through logic.
Psychology primarily deals with the human nature, an individual's behaviours, experiences and mental processes. It's all about the human being and things related to it. So... according to me, it is the best way.

Art is a important aspect of society, I believe. Art defines a society. An individual lives and expresses himself through art. And it's the individuals that make up a society.

I would open it. I would want to know how much time I have to do some things that I want to do before I die. I would want to tell my loved ones how much I love them. So, yeah.

Before now, I might've said I would not open that letter, but after reading your response, I think I would after all. Thanks for giving us such great insight into you as a person, Shruti. You are wise beyond your years and it shows that you took the time and care to think about your answers. You gave us all plenty to think about! I hope you enjoyed your fortnight in the spotlight.

    Shruti,
Your experience with Vitiligo makes my heart ache. Not only for your fear of ridicule and your empathy with those who actually were ridiculed, but also for the fear put into you by your expectations. I've the belief that you are likely as beautiful as anyone but do not believe it because of this disorder. Have you ever tried, as an experiment, using body paint all over yourself in some color like blue or green and then looking at yourself? I'll bet you would see yourself differently.

This opinion is coming from a fat, balding, aging and lazy man who still thinks he's "got it" - especially in his wife's eyes.

You made me crack up, Larry. You're too hard on yourself, but at least you know your wife thinks you've got it.

    Hi again.

    My question this time is.

What is your favorite flower and why.

I guess my time here is over, but I'll drop a reply anyway. ^_^
I actually love this question, though a simple one. My favourite flower is Wisteria.
Well, no specific reason. Whenever I see it, I feel a kind of serenity. Its subtle colour is so pleasing to the eye...and the mind.
    Thank you. :)
