My friend isn't allowed to read harry Potter or see the movies, because it is against her religion. She hates it. I personally think it's really stupid to ban something. And if they ever ban Harry Potter, I'll just go back on my religion and read he books and watch the movies, Cause they are awesome.

Some of the stories in a book I know are really bitching. Ezekiel was one hell of a vengeful geezer, yet I bet half the western world is ignorant of the quality because half the western world wants to ban (or already has banned) the bible from schools.

Harry Potter is nothing but VERY conventional writing (to the point of the mundane) mixed with lots of advertising... go read a bible and get some morals and a good read.

By the way, I'm not Christian.

In fact, read the Emperor series by Conn Iggulden. That's REAL writing... and Julius Caesar was a top fella too.

WHAT IS OUR WORLD COMING TOO

whats next are they going to whipe out the whole pork world because someone cant eat pork its their religion.

or obolish sex because somebody decided to be selebis..

There are sooo many different religions out there let them be, i mean follow your own religion but dont go nosing in some else because you dont like how the way things are run, that is not for you to decide. People are down right stupid and man pope or not i would tell him right where to stick it....what a joke!

You know what i think? I think parents should stop pushing their religion on their kids. Instead, why dont you let them get a variety of everything and let them choose. I mean, people are different i know i dont beleive in some of the things my parents beleive mind you it causes some very heated debates but still...i was able to choose what to beleive. Its not like i came home one day and said "MOM, i am a catholic" gradually over time and my very own life experiences i decided weather or not i beleived in religion all together.

there are too many nosie nellies in the world and they feel that they are this higher power that can tamper around with someones beleifs because its does fit their lifestyle...beleive in whatever it is worth beleivening but dont go judging someone because of their beleifs because you dont like them..thats tough shit in life there are going to be things you hate but you suck it up and get over it..

lmao ahaha sorry didnt mean to come off so agressive just pisses me off.
anyways, i think its stupid this guy is trying to ban harry potter its a fricken movie...whats next banding bubble gum because it against someones religion...its a joke

Using people's argument of tolerance of religion shouldn't you respect the Pope's decision to ban Harry Potter?

If his Holiness thinks Catholics should not read about witchcraft then that's a decision for Catholics. If you're not catholic you have no right to say it shouldn't be banned. It is a matter for Catholicism, not the people.

A school a couple of towns over from where I live banned Harry Potter books. It took over a year of appeals to get the books back in the library.
I was debating one of my co-workers about it. They're very religious, bible toting christians...any way they were all for the removal of the books. Telling me it's full of magic and their daughter wasn't allowed to read it or watch the movies. I asked them if she watched Disney movies. They said yes and got on their soap box about how Disney wouldn't produce the Harry Potter movie because of the witchcraft (magic)...I then asked them if she was able to watch Bedknobs and Broomsticks! That whole thing is full of magic and it's produced by Disney....not to mention Aladdin and many others! That shut them up pretty quick! I think banning it is ridiculous. You find the same stuff in many books, but you don't see them ripping them off the shelves~Holly

    Revelation 21:8

But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

My children don't read or watch harry potter, not because I forbid them to, but because they choose not to. They think it is stupid. This shows me I am instilling good values in them.
By the way, I am one of those "Bible toting Christians" & so are my children and husband.
I don't push my beliefs on people, I think witchcraft is wrong, but you are free to believe whatever you like. However, it wouldn't bother me at all if they banned harry potter.

****Religion was once thought to bring people together as a huge family****

What religion are you talking about......religion has started more wars than anything else. even in the bible people were killed for there beliefs. when white people first came to america we were running from the british who were killing beause of different religions, When have you seen a big group (thousands) of people of the same religion get together and someone hasn't said or done something to spread hate.

I believe that people have the right to read whatever books they want to, Harry Potter, the Bible, anything. Harry Potter is no worse than many others.

This reminds me of the thread "Hospitals banning the Bible." It's really sad how books are banned.

Haha this is so stupid when you think about it.. by banning Harry Potter the Pope is making it seem ever more appealing and interesting because people who haven't already read it will be wondering what the fuss about it is.. so he is therefore promoting it in his attempt to ban it.. haha fool
Anyways, if he does ban it, who won't be allowed to read it? It's not like he can stop shops selling it, can he?

  • Eibutsina

No offence but the Pope doesn't look like he'll live long enough to enforce such a ban

This cracked me up, religious tyrants getting their hands on everything...including our literature...its a tragedy in itself

lol pope is a waste of space

he belives women hav two purposes in life only, virginity n motherhood, anythin more is a sin

a big bunch of roman catholics agree

  • Dorotea©

I doubt they'll ACTUALLY ban Harry Potter, because then they'd be taking away the freedom people have. That would be idiotic.

  • Eibutsina

On another Dorotea look at where the freedom has got us?

We rate our movies and ask for photo ID to enter certain films (movies being the key word) then play vicious real life war footage at dinner time for our children to see and wonder why they have violent tendencies?
We question the Bible, the Turah and the Quran but believe what we read in magazines and newspapers?

I dont know I'm open to interpretation tho :o)

  • EoB

Actuall, they don't really have the power to ban it...They can't make it illegal, can they?

    at least not in Norway...

    Stupid idiot pope

  • Bret Higgins

yeah... Jihad and the Bible go hand in hand don't they... idiot.

Bibles don't make war, people make war. Religion is just a handy excuse.

Like I said before, this a matter of Catholicism anyone who isn't Catholic has nothing to do with it.

  • Kaitlin Kristina

I think it's ridiculous that the Pope doesnt have bigger things to focus on, but leave it to the Catholics to overlook poverty, starvation, and the AIDS parademic to get children to stop reading.

the point of harry potter was fun and imagination...and dont we want kids to READ? harry potter did not come out as a book that was supposed to preach to kids on how to live or what to do, or what is real. it is acknowledged that it is fully fictional and nobody has said otherwise. the pope can do how he pleases with catholicism, i'm tolerant of all religions, but i dont understand how harry potter is in any way sinful...its a book...like was posted earlier, they let kids watch disney movies and play pretend and HALLOWEEN? come on now people.
