I like a lot of the new wave of sci fi and horror movies but they rely far too heavily on effects and digital gross outs than the story and use of dark spaces to create suspense and true fear.

As you can see I am a product of the 70's and 80's.

Most of the Japanese and Korean horror films are based on legend, myth, folklore or adapted from them. So what your friends say is correct from a certain point of view.

I have been advised to see The Eye, aparently it is a corker.

Yeah, Dune is crap but is so heavily interlinked with my childhood that I like it anyway. All cheese is good cheese.
