"All those people chose to stay! so they have no one to blame but themselves!"

Most of those people who remained didn't have the money, means or ability to suddenly evacuate. Many were elderly, infirm or existing way below the poverty level. Some were homeless street dwellers. But they’re still human beings.

This should be a time to think about compassion and charity for the many helpless victims in this disaster. But instead many of you are simply content to point the finger of blame at anything and everything in the wake of a natural disaster. This is deplorable. You’re even blaming those who are working to restore order so that adequate emergency relief work can proceed. Fortunately, there are plenty of other people around the country and around the world who are opening their hearts and their pocketbooks to help out as generously as they can. But some of you just seem to have no heart.

Wesley, you are simply unloading a mass of misinformation here. I suggest you furnish your sources for the claims you have made about the availability of free buses BEFORE the hurricane struck because that contradicts every news account.

First of all, hurricane forecasts that track individual hurricanes extend only 5 days forward and even then they are just rough estimates because the storm direction and intensity is always subject to unexpected changes. Hurricane evacuation orders are NEVER given 2 weeks in advance. They are usually issued 24-72 hours prior to a projected landfall time. The evacuation order for NO and the Gulf Coast went out the day before Katrina struck.

The Superdome was offered as a refuge for those unable to evacuate. There were no other public shelter arrangements prior to the time that Katrina struck the Gulf Coast. And they don't just put people on outward bound buses with no destination. No other refuge was offered until days AFTER the Hurricane had already struck and the Superdome had itself become a hurricane casualty, making it unsuitable as a shelter. It was only then that the first bus caravans began transporting people from NO to the Astrodome which the city of Houston offered as a shelter.

At first it had been generally anticipated that the storm damage in NO would last only a few days before it would be over and the evacuees and sheltered inhabitants could return home. Very few people expected the worst case scenario with a failed infrastructure causing massive continuous flooding and total breakdown in the city. NO has existed since it was founded in 1712 by French colonists. It has survived a number of past natural disasters including the direct hit from a prior category 4 hurricane. So the expectations this time were wrong but they were not unreasonable.

It is just wrong to blame the victims of this hurricane.

Cookies with Laxatives? No, give him a pint of milk with laxatives.

Not enough is being done at a quick enough pace to help the people suffering. It's is so sad to see the problems there and the inability of the authorities to do do anything properly.

Everything is so out of joint.
