Darkness on the Edge of my Soul
    By Bill Turner

There is a darkness on the edge of my soul
From being burnt one too many times
The edges have become frayed over the years
Scorched and tattered my soul is intact
I will never compromise it that is a fact

That darkness seeks to envelope me
Creeping crawling wrapping itself around my heart
Looking for a way in, a crack in the wall
As long as I remain pure of heart
This darkness will not get a start

Doing the right thing because it is right to do
Will keep the darkness on the edge of my soul
Standing for all that I believe never giving an inch
Living, loving and laughing each day a new start
The new year so simple if we all do our part

    Another Year, Another Chance
    by Peter DeJesse

Throughout this year, as a firefighter
I have witnessed heartache and pain
I ask, “What could I do differently
    should this ever happen again?”

In my job, I am told
not to dwell on past fires
    It’ll make you crazy thinking
    Of all that transpired

Yet much more can be done
    to help those in need
Since I am usually the first
to help them off their knees

    What else can I do
    to help ease their minds
    To help them through
    this extremely bad time

The resolution I make this year
is to be more vigilant and aware
    of the people I serve
    and show them I care

    Angel Purification

    Upon the coming
    of New Year
    my heart reborn
    disarming past fear

    Baptizing my soul
    cleansing away sins
    creating new passages
    a new life begins

    Crystal blue waters
    magnify my eyes
    showing the purest
    angel in disguise

    Hope For Tomorrow

    Another year come and gone
Filled with happiness, heartache & tears
    Losing those we loved
    Brought us many tears.

    I know in my heart
    We're not promised tomorrow
So love I want to spread to the world
And for God to mend my sorrow.

Just a smile to make someone's day
A helping hand for those in need
A shoulder for them to lean
    Touch hearts that bleed.

I wish I could fill the world with Peace
    Change so many things
I wish all hearts could love
And make the bells of Peace... Ring.

Let's make a difference in our world
To live with love in our hearts
    The Beauty comes from within
God will bless you with your part.

    Happy New Year....

I don't make resolutions as you never will stay true.
They lead to dissolution good intentions you can't imbue
I don't like resolutions; it's bunch of mindless gumpf.
I need no absolution, besides... (we shrug) they only last a month.

As you can see I am not in a group but I was momentarily inspired. When I win Bob can have my prize and put it in his bathroom next to the loo roll holder.

The past year was so pitiful
    All that suffering and pain
This year I wish for peace
And I hope you wish the same

My pledge will be to love
    My family even more
Show the love inside my heart
Show it's them that I adore

    My wife will be treated
    With kisses everyday
    I'll shower her with poems
And all the things I wish to say

So this year to sum it up
    My selfishness shall end
My love is on the increase
    Many people I'll befriend

    Motivated Spirit

    Through sorrow and tears
learning to move on and learn
    leaving one year clear behind
    holding onto nothing, healing slow

    Focusing on family and friends
people who are dearest to me
Praying to be there through the thick
to help guide them, a helping hand

Hoping to become a bolder being
sticking up for those in need
Most of all for my own beliefs
    A stronger individual in society

My motivations for the New Year
of what I hope I can improve
    though I'll struggle, sometimes fail
I'll just keep on moving forward

I wrote a poem that has a somewhat related theme, but is not explicitly related to New Year, would that be fine? It is also too long, so I reckon I should not participate with that one. Ich weiss nicht.

    Stumbling Upon Success

    Years of stumbling
    over waves of disappointment
as motivation crashes at my feet

    Trapped in oblivion
    awaiting my coveted demise
a chance to finally be free

    Only to find
    another year approaching
    at such a remarkable pace

    I've nothing left to do
    but face the new year
    with determination and grace

    Promising to leave
    the past where it is
I'll make a brand new start

    Changing my attitude
    creating motivation
    and remodeling my heart

    Optimism will be
    my new found friend
    chasing the demons away

    Happiness shall bring
    forth laughter and cheer
    causing heartache to stray

    Though some days
    will be a struggle
    diligence is the key

    For I know the strength
    to achieve success
    lies within me
