In His Dreams

Note: This was my actual Valentime's Day, 4 Valentines ago!

Dreams of Valentine's Day,
chocolates and cards,
Like a fairytale, a day
with his sweetheart.

Scent of fresh roses,
a quiet stroll in the park.
Candle light dinner,
a room full of hearts.

But sadly a dream
as he awakes in his bed.
In walks the nurse,
"It's time for your pills."

Limp bouquets adorn his room,
the only greeting cards all
read "Get well soon."
There is no Valentine's day for him.

All alone in his gloomy room.
Hospital suppers are the only
things to look forward to.
An occasional visit but not this day!

Solitary in the confines of his bed.
Valentine's day, just a dream in his head.
So dream on he will, away from his
chocolate colored pills.

Of a day of sweet song and wine,
a day he can rejoice and dance all the time.
Of ruby red kisses so Divine,
from his sweet Valentine in another time.

My Valentine (For 28 years)

When you asked me to marry you
What a special day for me
Tears of joy and happiness
Your wife I wanted to be.

The vows I said to you, I meant
Till death do us part
You swept me off my feet
And you stole my heart.

You walked every step with me
Shared my happiness and pain
You loved me unconditional
I've loved you the same.

When ever I needed you
You were always at my side
You'd wipe the tears away
When they fell from my eyes.

You always provided for our family
A good man you truly are
This is why I fell in love with you
Right at the very start.

So many thought we wouldn't make it
But boy, did we prove 'em wrong
Our love continues to blossom
We know where our hearts belong.

Just having this love that's so sacred
Is the greatest gift of all
Being honest and truthful
Is the most precious gift I can recall.

Another Valentine's Day we share
I say to you with all my heart...

I love you as much today
As I loved you the day we met

A Precious Love We've Kept!

True Love does exist, I am one of the lucky ones....dated my Husband for 3 yrs and been married for 28. I would call that true, sweet, LOVE!
He's my Valentine Every Day!

Valentines

It is centuries old
The lamest holiday
Of the Hallmark mold
It is just another day

One day a year
Flowers and a card
From the person you hold dear
Rest of the year emotionally scarred

There is another way
Shower them with love
Each and every day
On a pedestal above

Live life with passion pure
Love guiding your heart
Give them your love as a cure
Each day a new start

Keep your romance alive and well
Loving each other for life
Spill your potion cast your spell
Each day loving like a new husband and wife

You need have no fear
Show them a better way
Forget about Valentines once a year
Make each morning a loving day

WHAT VALENTINES DAY MEANS TO ME

Valentines Day is a day
To celebrate love, passion,
To share a candle lit dinner
For two,
Go dancing under the stars.
Or to share a night of endless passion
To sit on the bed feed each other
Strawberries and whipped cream,
Cherries. It’s a day to be with
The one you love and be able to
Sit in each others arms.

A Valentine's gift
CC&P

Though the words are unspoken,
everyone knows that love
is being bought in stores today.
Perhaps it's hiding inside
the fragrant petals of a rose,
a customer so proudly displays.
Or is it a card that simply says,
"I love you, today and everyday",
a polite man asks a stranger?
She watches the crowd
searching for ways to speak
in beautiful tongue
what only the heart could possibly say.
She couldn't resist the urge to stand up
and address life's old question.
So she takes a deep breath
and with a little bit of dignity
she pulls the answer out of her pocket
and boldly says-
"Smile a poem in her name,
it'll do more than make her day.
It will kiss away her lonely nights
and love her, when you love her not.
When she's finished memorizing
your every word,
she'll unlock her heart's chest
and neatly tuck you away.

Roses are dread and violets run through
hearts and minds on such a day
that come ye all for 24
such as love for once is focussed
and once for love all kinds agree
even shops and cops so graciously
allow for a day and do decree
that Love is grand and should be free.

Well, I took a little different approach with mine, so here it is........

Saint Valentine

Here's the story
of how this day began
all in the name of love
and one truly special man

An Emperor said "no more marriages,
single men must go to war"
but this priest named Valentine
would not turn away those standing at his door

He performed weddings in secret
for young ones in love
until the day he was caught
and in jail now sat this dove

People came to visit
bringing flowers and notes
just to let him know
love they do promote

The jailor's own daughter
became his special friend
she visited him every day
until the very end

He wrote her a letter
on the day he was put to death
signed it "Love from your Valentine"
now doesn't that just catch your breath

So every February fourteenth
as we celebrate with those we love
remember to say thank you
to Saint Valentine up above.

The Rose

Id put my life one the line
Just not to see you sad
I will always call you mine
I just love to see you glad

If you ever had an ounce of hurt
Id have a 100pnds of pain
If you ever feel lower then dirt
id be your shoulder to cry in the rain

I will be your forever healing
I'll be there when your in need
And I know Love is what I'm feeling,
Cause you wipe my pain when i bleed

Baby I'm yours forever
I'll make sure you never forget
This relationship is forever
Your the best I've ever met

Ill send you a beautiful red flower
and it has a deeper thought
The Green for moments that were sour,
Red for the battles we fought

But in the end the rose looks great
Because in the end were still Together
Just goes to show you're my fate
cause the rose stands tall,
no matter the weather

Your eyes shine brighter then the sun,
and sometimes i stare and get lost,
Thats how i know your the one,
This relationship has never lost

I love you so much baby,
and i know i can get demanding
but only you can save me...
Remember..That rose is still Standing....

Some may think this is not a valentines day theme..but yet it is...This poem shows through everything that he and she have been through there still together and lasting forever...on Valentines Day..We show our loved ones how much we love them and show them that no matter how bad things are they still feel love..I feel like this poem shows that...it shows how much i love my gf and also shows that thing may be un right but through it all i still love her...

Kristen, that was outstanding...and if you don't win....and if one of those puke poems win...you know the kind that George Orwell wrote about when he spoke of songs made up by machines to appease the dim masses in 1984....I will be most displeased.

But yeah, this is calling out all the players, which is a good thing, even though i'm arrogant about quality..this feels lively..and with poems, thats rare in a social sense.

Hey Satin,

you got some nerve berating me for challenging the originality of the poems posted in this compitition by name calling, as if by being childish you elevate yourself to such a position whereby anything you say suddenly has merit.

That is the second time you've insulted me without provocation. If you think I am being too harsh then say so in an adult manner, otherwise keep the playground mentality where it belongs.

If anyone thinks my comment was out of line, and that most of the poems posted thus far are not generic love poems, then speak up. I support poetry in all it's various forms but i was under the impression one of the main reasons for this sites existence was the improvement of it's poets through comments and discussion.

So lets discuss if need be.

Little Fire

Grow my little fire
bigger than before
Melt the wax again
dance the night away

Reflect upon my eyes
a wild dance of love
burning at my heart
harming an ignorant touch

dance within the dark
Provide a light of hope
