My friend wants to quit and I'm not sure shes doing the right thing. She wants to get her GED but feels its best for her to quit. Shes only 17 I don't get it? Her parents would never let her do that. I don't understand how she can quit..I mean is it actually possible to quit school without your parents consent? Isnt it illegal to switch schools without your parents consent as well?

I quit without my parents pemission and I was 16. I do not suggest it for anyone and I will never support it for anyone unless it is an absolute have to..

I was kicked out. It sucks so much dude. I used to hate school so freakin' much I would cuss out teachers and throw syrup at students and teachers alike just to get suspended. But it has been almost five months or something since I was thrown out and lemme tell you, I was missing it by the end of three weeks. The is just nothing to do, no one to see, and I just sit at home all day starring at the bloody walls. My advice; stay in school.
Oh hell I must have gone crazy cause I sound like an after-school special :(

    I did

    I was younger

    But Im in Australia too

Best thing I ever did. School wasnt right for me it was a waste of my time, teachers time and parents money. Ive been lucky enough to educate myself on the job since then and am now a qualified accountant among other things...not saying its the right thing for your friend to do but there are other options, school isnt designed to suit everybody and some people have unqiue ways of learning like myself...

So much pressure is put on kids in school these days like its the be all end all of there entire lives and this is NOT the case. There are loopholes and plenty of alternate and even more valuble ways of gaining education than in a mainstream college.

its getting harder and harder to get ANY jobs without graduating...

many jobs and many colleges (even small community ones) wont accept GED's anymore...

so it may be really hard for her to do anything when she gets older...

and she's really gonna miss out on many, many things if she drops out....

i had a friend drop out last year...one of the smartest kids i will probably ever know...hes a freakin genius...but he just wants to be a bum and do nothing but drink all day and sit.... and most people that drop out will just be "bums" (in a sense)...and i dont mean that in a bad way... i just mean that they will become lazy 'cause they dont have to do anything, and then it will be hard for them to want to get up and try to find a job and make a living....

REALLY REALLY encourage her to stay in... it will be better for her now, and in the future...

I haven't reached the age where I can, but I'm not ever going to quit school. Sure I hate getting up and learning math, language arts and social studies, but when you can compare your knowledge, you can say you did the right thing, and you can say I finished School, I didn't drop out, I imagine it's a great feeling.

    This thread is so old.

But if she's 17 she can quit.

I left school at 16 last year, without my parents consent. Well, My dad knew I was quitting cause I had no other option. It was either I quit or be expelled. So yesh. But encourage her to stay. Mucking up in school and leaving is one of my biggest regrets.
