Is anyone else a member if so what summerschools have you been to and what were they like?
I went to Canterbury to study creative writing, Warwick to study Drama and Leeds to study philosophy.

They were some of the most amazing experiances of my life and I have made some really strong friendships because of it.

    Cheers Aaron (remo)

Yes I'm in it! I haven't been to any events yet, it's not that I don't want to because I think they are great opportunities but there I haven't heard of one which I want to do close to where I live. I will have a look on their site though in a min.

NAGTY baby!! yes i am a member and i'm also the member ruth spoke about above who's going to do drama ... i don't know what to expect though, quite worried it'll just be loads of geeks (like us ;-) ) should be good thought and a great oppurtunity...

i read something in the paper the other day though which said the choose the schools which are involved in NAGTY due to how many people are willing to take part . . . this seems a bit unfair to me however . . .

well NAGTY makes me feel clever especially reading the magazine - fight for your right to twinkle * !!

lol I love nagty! And aspire is awesome! (I do hope to think I'm confising someone not in nagty hehe). What is the drama thing about because people in my year got chosen to do a workshop for it, are they actually in nagty and can we all attend the same workshop?

Actually being a member, I would actually rather them to put the vast amounts of money into improving the support scheme to aid the particularly able. I mean I'm not saying that NAGTY is bad it's just that we're only there for three weeks max and when we go back to school we have to put up with waiting for the rest of the class to catch up! If they invested the money into hiring teachers that can cope with able children then life would be easier. I get bored in class because of the pace of lessons: where as it might take some people in the class to do, say five questions i would get ten done and the sad thing is I'm not allowed to do ten i have to do five and wait for everyone to catch up. (I'm trying to make this sound as 'un big-headed' as possible but it's not going well ; p) Now if a child was struggling to get the five questions done there would be support for them. Just because I don't fall below the 'national average' doesn't mean I don't have special needs.

Yeah I totally agree aaron. I don't think it would be too much effort for them to change this. In my school we are put in sets for our ability in Science, Maths, modern languages and history, and I think it should be like this for other subjects such as english and geography.
When I have done the work and have to wait for less capable people to catch up, I get so fed up. I don't have much patience and sometimes find myself in trouble for being silly once I've done the work. We have TAs (teaching assistants) to help the 'less-capable' people, and nothing for those of us who can do the work. I do love NAGTY, as it motivates us to keep working hard and take an interest in education and stuff, but I do feel more should be done in schools as if I am honest I know I don't always put 100% into my work because the teachers are always with the other kids....
btw I also didn't mean to sound bigheaded there although I probably have!

No you sounded fine. And you also brought up a very good point about being silly which I have also found to be the case. Most of the disruption in our class is not from the people who are bored because they can't do the work you usually find that these people get there heads down and persevere at the task in hand; it is however the more abled children (my self included) that tend to get bored when they are not stimulated and cause disruptions in the class.
