I have seen the road but there was no sign of a chicken. and who's to say the chicken crossed the road anyway....... perhaps the chicken stood still and the road moved under him... such is the power of modern chickens. do not be fooled. and do not look one directly in the eye.

Because chickens would not have the mental capacity to realise what they were doing was very dangerous. The only thing they would see different between the road and the path, is perhaps the different surface.
Most likely this chicken would have either got lost from it's farm due to a whole in the fence, or it was frightened off by something, perhaps a larger animal like a dog.
However it got there it would certainly be a lucky chicken if it wasn't killed by an oncoming vehicle especially if it was a main road.
