No England flags?

Now I'm not one to moan about rules etc .. well no I am .. but the recent news I have discovered in -so many- places, is that people are not allowed their England flags in their cars etc, and I quote, "In case it offends muslims and other religions".
My dad can not have anything to do with England at work, nor can drivers who work for Tesco, and also a child was asked to remove his shirt because football strips were banned, whilst he was having lunch with his family and I personally feel this is totally ridiculous! It's the world cup, why are we not allowed to support our country in the football?

What are everyone elses views on this topic?

I sometimes feel wierd about "offending other religions."

If I were EVER, EVER IN MY LIFE, asked to take off my cross or a shirt that said "I love Jesus"(I don't own one, but hypothetically), I would deny with the most defiance I could. Once you ask me to sacrifice my religion for someone elses "preference," it'll cross the line. We can't draw pictures of Christ in art either.

I mean, we can't put up Christmas trees, or have Nativity scenes during Christmas either out in yards(or the church has to buy space.)

Not only that, stores cannot wish you a "Merry Christmas." anymore. It must be "Happy Holidays."

I'm not trying to offend anyone, if you knew me, you'd know me to accept anyone.

    But I'm a Christian, and I'm proud.

^^That's slightly irrelevant, but it's my conflict in "Religious" terms.

I moved to the states recently and can (and do) happily fly the Union Jack and St. George Cross.

Support your country, move to America.

Bret, see even in other countries you can fly the flag, just not your own!

This has nothing to do with Religions Kim. This has something to do with the hooligan behaviour that comes with parading with that flag...Example:

Let us say Portugal won against england, and the next day. A portugese man parades his flag which is on his car, while visiting Sainsbury or Tesco. What do you think will happen?

Like I said, the ban on flags, is to not distingush which country we support. So as to quell the hooliganism (If that even is a word) and support the love of a beautiful game.

"This has nothing to do with Religions Kim. This has something to do with the hooligan behaviour that comes with parading with that flag...Example:"

The reason given to my dad was "Because it will offend Musliems and other religions"

That may not be the case, but it was what was said. which I think is ridiculous.

Supporting your country shouldnt just be for the world cup, I mean England are never gonna win, thats like totally obvious, but if you are proud of being English then you should fly the flag all year round. I have one hanging out my window and its been there for the past 3 years, all year round!

Tapered dreams, no some workers at places aren't allowed to present their flags.

TaraKay, exactly I feel we should be allowed to present them andno, England are never going to win, but still I feel we should be allowed to present the flags.

I just went out, and found that many of my neighbours support their home flags. And many cars as well. I think you should investigate this with your pops Kim!!

Burn all flags, they just incite nationalism and yes Ismail, hooliganism is a word, a very apt word in this thread.
Erection, I believe that whilst you may think you have a point it might be a good idea to look at other situations to really get a more constructive view... I wonder if the American Natives would agree with that philophsy or indeed the Aboriginals of Australia... I hate to say thhis but you sound a bit too nationalistic for my liking... we're all humans and this is our world, which ever country we choose to live in. Everyone could learn to accept each others differences and allow whatever... personally I don't give a flying one for the flag, nor the England team for that matter, if we win, we win, if we loose, then so be it... football is just a game... which gets mistaken for war!

its those few who ruin it for everyone, i have many friends of different religion and ethnicity, and they dont care if we have flags and christmas trees up. Infact my muslim friends celebrate the commercial holiday of christmas... as many do anyway, afterall if you aren't religious you can celebrate stuff like christmas for just loving ya family etc. And everyone has a right to show support for their own country for football.

Would we ask a Frenchman living in our country to take down his French flag because he is being 'racist'? No! And I for one would not be offended if any one from any country/religion wishes to fly a flag. How on earth can it offend people? It's like rewriting 'baa baa black sheep' to baa baa multicoloured sheep' it's crazy!
