Drinking And Driving Contest.

I'm bored, again. Lol, so I decided to do another new contest.

Write a new poem, or simply enter an older one if you have already written one about drinking and driving. This is a subject that is really touchy to me and I would like to read some poetry on it =] .

The deadline for this will be November first, so lots of time to enter. But, I may just decide to end it after 20 or so poems. It all depends. You may reserve your spot if your heart desires. Enter because you love me! =]]

There will be a top five, and two honorable mentions. The honorable mentions will get 3 r/r/c on poems of their choice. The top 3 will get 8 r/r/c and 2 of which will be a deeper criticism than the normal "wow, 5/5!" It'll actually be a longer comment, though mine tend to normally be longer lol. And then fourth and fifth will each get 6 r/r/c. Make me smile and enter =] .

Stop And Think

Alcopops, spirits, beer and wine,
after a couple You may still feel fine.
Your reactions slow down, You're not up to par,
Stop and think. Don't get in Your car.

Someone dies every half hour, every single day,
from drink driver idiots, that think they're okay.
Hundreds more injured, thousands more cry,
Most of the time, it's the innocent that die.

It's a gamble with life, nobody should take,
it causes nothing but grief, hurt, and heartache.
Have a good time, but please use Your head,
Don't drink and drive home, get a taxi instead.

Drink and drive

The party had finished
The people were leaving
In the car they all got
Off to home they were going

The driver of a car had no drinks
If he was to drink and drive
He knew what could happen
And he wanted to get home alive

He was driving along
Paying attention to the road
While his friends mucked about
Any care, none they showed

Suddenly another car
Come speeding along
To fast for the driver to miss him
On the side that was wrong

He wakes up to see
All his friends have died
When help finally comes
All his tears he has cried

He gets taken to the hospital
He is in a bad state
The doctors don't think he will survive
That is his fate

He over hears the doctors
They say the other driver was drunk
And that he will survive
But the other passengers sunk

His friends are dead
And he wasn't going to be alive
All because some guy
Chose to drink and drive

question...ok i wrote one like a while back...and it was about someone who lost their husband because on the way to a bar to celebrate their anniversary they were hit by a drunk driver...is that ok? if not...then ill write a new one...and id like 2 reserve a spot if that's the case..

Rain Falls Down... (Part of my poem "Rain")

The rain drips slowly on the softened window pane
The pitter-patter makes me remember again.

One year ago, we got into that car
But somehow, we never got very far

While driving along down a long, dark street
Your car and the tree just happened to meet

So as you slid out of control, your memories flashed
You had no idea that it would be her last

Holding onto the wheel as you tried to grasp
All that escaped from your mouth was a hollowed gasp

Swerving to the left and sliding to the right
You weren't sure if your were gonna see the next night

Holding onto a prayer, a hope, and a dream
Things are never what they seem

But you came out of the wreck alive
But you would never forget what you left behind

Because sitting in the seat was the body of a girl
Who just had her last ride in this world

You never knew that she was sitting there dead
You were more concerned about your throbbing head

So now you see what what rain can do
When you're driving too fast and drinking too

Goodbye Darling

She watches as they slowly, lower the casket,
Wishing she had never told him to take that shortcut.
If it wasn't for her yelling, he'd still be alive,
As she goes back into her memory archive.

Back in high school, when they first met,
He asked her out, because it was a bet.
Then he realized, money didn't matter,
He didn't care who knew, for he loved her.

They were only freshman, yet madly in love,
They had maturity far up and above-
the rest. Then at 18, he popped the question,
"Will you marry me", and "yes" was her reaction.

Now she cries, after 5 years of marriage,
She wishes more than anything to give him one last message.
That's she sorry, and she loves him more than anything,
She will miss him, and don't worry, he'll always mean something.

The priest then states, "He died in a car,
As he, and his wife, drove to the local bar.
She said, take a shortcut, because it's getting late,
Because tonight was special, since their child, their first date.

A drunk from the bar, must've not seen them,
Because he hit the car, and the car went in flames in mayhem.
Luckily for us, the wife got away,
As we can see, he didn't, that's why were here today."

He says a little pray now, as all throw in roses,
As in his coffin, he eternally snoozes.
All the guest go home, except for his wife,
She says goodbye, he was the love of her life.

"Goodbye, my darling Husband, I've known you so long,
I'm sorry that this happened, I was so wrong.
I'll really miss you, I'll never forget about you,
Goodbye honey, I know you love me too."

If he went to that party or not
Watching my boy drive off
In his little beatle car
Saying to myself
Hell be back in an hour or so
But it never happened
Its hours and hours past the time he should be home
And its my time to finally worry
My fears rise to my throat
When I hear the doorbell ring
I tremble down the hall
And hesitate to open the door
I get my courage up
And find officers standing on my porch
I fall to my knees
Screaming for him to come home
To appear behind the officers

"Ma'am Im sorry for your loss
But your boy was killed tonight
But the drunk driver
Hit him hard
And killed him instantly"

This cant be happening
He'll come home soon
I keep telling myself that
As I close the door
I wait upon hours
And still no return of my son
Then I knew suddenly
Because I didnt care if he had gone or not

Remembering what's wrong.
You were like this not so long ago,

Then on your lap, the paper sit:
Records of my life... spent.

Drinking and driving, it says on the sheet.
Speeding, with another, in the passanger seat.
Three injured, two killed,
All from a glass, that shouldn't have been filled.

I tell you I'm sorry, I didn't mean to go away.
I tell you that my love for you, is always here to stay.
"Please reply to me my darling, tell me that you hear!''
But when you stand, you cannot see, my reflection in the mirror.

Painting false colour, onto your skin.
That steady hand growing thin.
To think you've got to do this alone again tomorrow,
Still you smile, with happiness you can only borrow.

If my heart still beat, it would be pacing faster now;
As I watch your strength shine, alongside the beauty you endow.
Butterflies would soar, because I swear I'm in your sights,
When you breathe into the air, ''Do I look alright?''

To know that I, think this question so obsurd.
I'll gaze, at your tear stained eyes,
but will not say a word.

The Accident (reprise)

They told me not to do it, to stay home all lonely.
They told me they forbid it, that him I couldn't see.
But to me it didn't matter, they weren't controlling me.
I had to get out of here; I had to just be free.

I snuck out of my window, alone with a small light.
And as I moved I disappeared, right into the dark night
no stars were out tonight, the moon had barely faded.
And when I saw his car lights I knew that I had made it.

We saw a movie together, had a wonderful time
in fact it was so much fun it should have been a crime.
I knew my parents were wrong so we got in the car
and after this first date, I knew we would go far.

He stopped the car and I thought that there was something wrong.
But when he stopped the car he put romantic music on.
He got on me, I struggled, and I pushed him far aside.
I said please don’t touch me all I needed was this ride.

He got all mad but kept on driving, and I knew that he was drunk.
Then he started speeding up, and my heart really sunk.
And I was not prepared for what would make me get knocked out.
For the last thing I remembered, was a bright light and a shout.

I woke up in the hospital bed and was in lots of pain.
I asked the nurse what happened, and to me they did explain.
The other car was totaled, the passengers all died.
Dead was also my driver, and here in bed I cried.

While crying in bed I pulled the nurse aside.
I asked for a small favor. Just one before I died.
Please apologize to my parents for me, because everyone’s dead.
But she said my parents were the dead ones, and she put me back to bed.

Now a lesson has been learned, since no one is alive.
And that lesson is, to never drink and drive.
