why do people have to be so mean?

If they told you to quit something, it just means they don't want any competition. Just ignore it and do whatever you want. Plus, you now know that someone is looking up to you, just in a very mean way. ^_^

Chances are, other people are being very mean to them, and, given the facelss nature of the internet, it's a very easy way to push that hatred out of themselves onto other people.

If you understand this, and particularly the bit about them beiing victims themselves, most likely. Then you can hopefully handle it a bit better..and hey, even reply to them and ask if they are ok?
