Is it right to hurt an animal?

I was just thinking back to a time when I threw myself on a dog when it went to attack my puppy and slapped it with my purse when it went to bite me.But I would never hurt and animal by choice, but this dog was pretty vicious so I did what I had to for the protection of my dog and myself.
I was wondering what you think?
Did I do the right thing?
Or was it wrong?

If it was for self-defence it's pretty much okay, but if u still went and hit it again or whatever to hurt it, even when it stopped attacking you that's just trying to hurt it and that's pretty much abuse. =^_^= and anyone would do that in your sitch so yea it's totes okay.

All depends on the animal and the time and place.

This dog was running lose and extremely vicious infact the same dog attacked and old lady with a small dog just the other day and when I started running to her the dog ran away. I made sure the lady was ok and she was just frightened but the small dog had a pretty good cut on the back of his neck where the dog grabbed it. Anyways I brought the lady back to my house gave her a seat and got a glass of water for her and helped clean the dogs cut.
But the owner of this dog just lets it run all over the place. And alot of little kids play in the area and im starting to get affraid the dog with attack a child..

Once i was out in the garden, i was liek 7 or soemthing, and a slug came up to me, and i started screaming cos i didnt like them, lol, and i nearly hit it with a stick but this other little girl who was only like 4 or somethign came up to me and was like "SLUGS HAVE HEARTS TO YA KNOW!!!"
and then i felt guitly and went inside ( i didnt kill the slug!......)

In the case that You have stated there was nothing else you could have done... As for this being a reoccurring problem with this dog, I would personally report the owner to the appropriate services before it really does some damage to another animal or person... I don't like the thought of animals being put down because I personally think that it is usually the owners fault why dogs turn out vicious, but for the safety of others something needs to be done...

Im gonna take all of these into concideration. I also think proper services should be notifide but sometimes they don't listen.

I don't think a person should hurt an animal for no good reason but if you do it in self defense to protect you and the life of your animal then yes, I think it was right what you did

Im glad u posted that cuz i went thru something like that my boyfriend has a cat and pitbull well they get along vrey well unless shes in the backyard or he will kill her then cuz thats his territiory...well the other day i i didnt see her back there and i let him out he took off and grabbed ahold of her and had her all the way in his mouth i beat the crap out of that dog tryin to get the cat out shes perfectly fine now but i felt bad for punching the dog...

No animals have life too :)

You did the right thing, to protect another animal, but i don't agree that going into say the woods, in a bears territory, when you know full well there are chances of being hurt, and then the bear being shot or something.

Call the animal shelter or the cops and report this.

If this isn't going to be solved then the dog is going to keep going after other things that move! Not the best way to explain it but still, report it.

And yes I think you did the right thing because you were defending yourself and your own animal.
