Nightmares

by Heidy Boats   Sep 16, 2014

A child wakes at midnight
Scared out of his skin
And no one hears his whispered cry
Does he make a sound?

For what is a lonely scared child?
But a part the we ourselves
Try to hide deep within our hearts
And trap between our silent screams

If you could hear the child cry
Would you have taken the time to look?
Or resign yourself to what seems lost
For surely someone must have found it

But little do you know
Everyone thinks the same
And the child lies alone in bed
Wishing he would sink into it

To hide himself from the monsters
Under his bed and in his closet
Waiting for him to wake up
To steal him away at night.

Poor child all alone
In the darkest corners of his room
He lays too scared to get up
And waits for the morning to come

wishing to be held in somebody's arms
Anybody's arms
To feel safe and secure from the night
And to have someone fight away the nightmares
