Our Home is not a Dustbin

by Ezeani Sunday   Nov 26, 2016

We have been lonely sailing

In this ocean of divided unity

Fifty-five years ago we were yelling:

'Give us One Naija!!!' with impunity

Now our voices are filled with frogs

Enduring, as lion roars and as we fly away in fogs

We were the first sailors of this ship

We hoisted out the peter flag by heroism

Yet we are cajoled as brainless sheep

As pirates launched their ethical imperialism

To usurp us from the deck

And chained albatross on our neck

We canvassed for dialogue

Since we know the value of oneness

But they barked like a hungry dog

Thus withering our hard-earned togetherness

In the dinner they showed off their lion-fangs

Frightened, our hearts banged by phobic pangs

We were gathering our luggage

Till we heard drones and booms

Which inscribed on the sky epitaph and dirge

To all horizons the news looms

Calling husks and doves to see

How we were nearly led out of the scene

We saw our brothers' blood flooding river Niger

Our tears were enough to keep Titanic ship afloat

Our tongues tasted of pepper and ginger

We almost lost our paddle and even boat

Thanks to our immortalized mortal hero

Who stood firm as the Northern winds blow

We stomached the gory and bully

For we're not shepherd less

We have mounted Calvary without worry

We have home so we're not homeless

But now like husks they have hovered into our land

Ready to island us and beat their band

We are the light of nation and Igbos' hope

Our land overflows with milk and honey

But they have come to bind us with Haramic rope

We are not dustbin or Boko-colony

Hence we protest: 'take them to their place

To stop or continue their terrific race'

All that happens, tend towards win. If God wills it, nothing shields it. He jealously guides the humble. Against all odds, victory abounds.

That is true but I hope God will answer our prayers now because the situation is really getting frenzy and fatal. Thanks for reading!!!
