Nothing left to do

by Mike Wilburn   Mar 21, 2008

My love is empty, lost and adrift
A chorus of stories experiences communal
Unity dances amid acceptance and regret
This theme developed through despondent accord

Hanging by a strand lacking conviction
Ripped apart then torn to shreds
Abandoned hope a familiar conclusion
Mortally wounded broken hearted and blue

Pushing on the battle continued
Praying that time indeed heals all wounds
Optimism favored a pleasant distraction
New love beginning as strength rebounds anew

Common topic untold millions relate
Chasing the sun can happiness motivate
Weep then cheer a perplexing malady
Giving all then giving in leaves nothing left to do

Stories the same regardless of virtue
Happiness captivates and holds love true
Trouble will find you so don't go looking
Keep your head up seeking shelter as needed

A heart is fragile, brittle yet vibrant
Requiring protection but not hidden away
Refuge from pain is not life worth living
Recuperate in time and start again

Seek those that rejoice for emotional plenty
Harbor and keep your thought confident
Unrelenting might will be your champion
Nothing can be gained without the fight

A glass half full never to be thirsty
Bountiful gifts provided by another
Human touch cannot be discounted
Giving all then giving in leaves nothing left to do

Although not my genre of choice, I do love your free verse poems. This piece delivered a very meaningful message and you have an awesome word choice. I love the way it ended, though I would shorten the last line a bit for the sake of flow:

Giving all then giving in leaves nothing left to do.

    I might say
Giving all leaves nothing left to give
    or
When all is given what is left to offer?

Just some suggestions. Overall the poem was great!
