Betrayed King

by Quietly Versed   Mar 22, 2008

I find myself amongst the black and white.
My life is played upon sixty-four squares.
I keep this maiden close by side,
For her advance is strong.

I am animated only for a turn,
Then I must remain unmoved.
Still as a fracas is plotted against me,
To my left, she stands in confidence.

And comes, this deceived day.
As Bishops and knights fall in honor,
Sadly I too find myself a pawn of some crusade.
Her heinous plot to be a widow.

Finding myself misdirected by the hands of another,
I am humbled.
My very queen hath put me in check,
As my broken-heart whispers mate.

I lay me down,
Amid my love, amid my pawn.
Her triumph conveys my defeat.
My love knew my weakness.
