The Girl With the Smile

by Hawaiian Chick   Dec 3, 2008

I thought my life was over as I walked through the school,
feeling so hopeless that I broke my 'smiling' rule.
That was when I first saw her, the girl walking all alone,
She struggled down the hall, her wheelchair gave a groan.
Her hands were shaking badly as she controlled with the switch,
I couldn't help but notice that he eyes continued to twitch.
But while I watched her sadly, I noticed something unique,
even with all her dispositions, she was happy as could be.
She smiled at me as I passed, her head shaking as she went,
and I felt something inside of me stir, my heart left with a dent.
If someone so mis-fortunate, could smile so naturally,
what in my life was so bad that my smile she couldn't see?

When I despair and wonder why is my life so wrong?
I think of that girl, and my worries don't last long.

Every new day is a new gift to see,
if we don't make it the best, then unhappy we'll always be.
