How Old Are You Really?

by Krista   Dec 27, 2008

How old are you really?
Are you young with an old mind,
or old, but just joining the world?
Have you seen wars,
filled with grief and pain;
or seen new lights,
captivating new eyes.

When times have passed,
and the summer leaves,
turn to golden browns,
we remember the old,
with the minds of the young;
pondering ourselves deeply,
looking for a light within.

Our time has come,
to leave once again,
but memories will tell the stories.
Tales of beauty, strength and honor,
flood the streets like a monsoon.
Courage tells us true age,
wandering along all alone.

    Krista,

    I love the idea behind this poem, really deep.
    Yes, some poeple live such superficial lives that they are still babies when they are already grand parents ( I know some, lol)
    What counts is how you make the years count, living a meaningful life and fill it with usefull memories.
    A thought provoking poem, good job!

    Hugs,

    5/5 Ingrid

    All i can say you'd great imagination. As the saying goes, " age is nothing but a number", most times it's so true. As you've said "Are you young with an old mind,
    or old, but just joining the world", sometimes it's hard to believe a person age when you're flattered by things that they'd said. You are an example, for your age writing a poem like this, so meaningful i would ask the same question you asked. Are you young with an old mind? I'd just change the old to older. Very well done. It merits more than 5/5, kel.
