Castor and Pollox

by Weeping Wolf   Feb 13, 2011

Castor and Pollox
Were two black cats
Who looked just the same
Till one sat in your lap

Castor was the lap-lover
They would take turns getting pets
And Pollox was the toy chaser
The sweetest cats I have ever met

At first, they moved my heart
They would not be apart
They were two parts of a whole,
They even moved my soul.

Pollox has eyes as round and big as the moon
Castor has eyes that smile like a sunrise
They made me laugh, the made me swoon
And as I sat with them, I found that I cried
For in their eyes, the frailty of humanity shines through.

They made me question humanity's commitment
To animals, to each other, to life, to love
They made me contemplate the future I was to have
They made me wonder who had the right to love.

I could only visit them a few short hours every week,
But not till I had to help them find a real home
Did I realize how strongly they had effected me
To expose a heart, yearning and alone.

Castor and Pollox
Were two great cats
They were two halves of a whole
Who had found a new home.
