Ole Teddy

by PETER EDWARDS   Jun 12, 2012

Ole Teddy

He sits at his desk, 'how things used to be..'
The phone rings, he answers, he's startled, it's 'she'
Lump in his throat, he talks on the phone
Wishing to God, with her was alone..

She'd tiptoed so quietly, stolen his Heart
Left messages saying, 'We'll never part'
Feels like 'ole Teddy', battered and bruised
He knows deep inside, how he's been used

She talks of her life now, with 'that man' and she
He tries to pretend, for her, he's happy
The minutes pass quickly, she soon says goodbye
Replaces the phone, there's a tear in his eye

His Heart like 'ole Teddy', now battered and old
Despite all that wear, still shines like Gold
Needs someone to love, a girl just like 'she'
To share all his warmth, and with him, just be

Is there anyone out there to share his affection?
Walk by his side, show him direction?
He'll come complete with Poems and Flowers
And mountains of Love to wile 'way those hours

Will someone please give 'ole Teddy' a home?
'Cos inside he's dying, and feels so alone..

    Hello Peter,

Great metaphor. We are all lovable, cuddly Teddies aren't we. It is such a shame when the love of an 'life' owner is so hard to find.

I remember writing a poem about an old, unwanted Teddy in a shop window. He was so sad that all the other battery operated toys had been sold, leaving him 'unsold' I won't spoil the ending, though predictable it is.

Anyway, we all deserve happy endings.

This is a good write and like your other work shows off your amazing talent.

    Take care,

    Michael

    Peter,
A wonderful poem here, full of great rhyming and the sentiment left me feeling rather sad for "ole Teddy"! Those last two lines almost brought a grown man to tears!.....Damn you, good fellow!
All the best and I hope you are well and have had a wonderful Christmas,
    Ben
