Where I'm From (an imitation poem)

by EchosLastSong   Feb 20, 2014

I am from cows,
from WD-40 and chlorhexidine gluconate.
I am from hay entangled hair.
(Golden, crunchy, smelling of Indian Summer.)
I am from the apple tree,
the rhubarb
those magnificent leaves
who subjugated the small tool shed.

I'm from tuna salad and eyes colored from the sea,
from M and D.
I'm from clinking coffee cups in time to polka's
and making way to much food at gatherings
From Hey kid! and Moulin Rouge!
I'm from bread and wine,
John 3:16
and you will soar on wings as eagles.

I'm from Merrill and Wilhelm Kaiser,
Gramma K white cookies and seven layer bars.
From the scar on my sister's shoulder
she acquired from the smoke vent
to P's new truck and the fuss of retrieving it.

Down the road,
a hop-skip-step away is a house,
older than dirt, more familiar than my favorite shoes;
Not pictures or videos
Memories.
Inscribed by love-
Encased on Spring Lake forever.
