Talk is Cheap

by Kitty Cat Lady   Mar 13, 2018

Drag your lies across my skin
I want to feel the pain
Brand me with your dirty mark
I'll forever wear the stain

Let the world see on the outside
The damage you caused within
These are the hallmarks of my shame
And proof that you have sinned

You won't ask for forgiveness
My approval is not required
You carry the guilt of many
It's just the way you're wired

Just leave your mark to validate
Make sure the scar is deep
Release from me all that's unsaid
Because baby, talk is cheap.

This poem travels to some dark places. It is indicated that the person descibed in the poem is in someway victimized. In one read of it, the lines "damage you caused within" and "hallmarks of my shame" Seem to put a deep focus on mental abuse. Damage was done to this person that goes beyond the surface level, and cuts deep.

I enjoyed the way this poem read out. Nice work!

Kitty, This pain, these lies you have been through I have no clue where it will lead you in life, we all hope for the best to come your way. But it's good to know that you found a good way to express yourself through poems.

I love the metaphors of lies cutting like a knife and leaving scars, because they do. And your use of the age old saying "talk is cheap" fits well with the analogy. Because someone who is ok lying to (and hurting) you cheapens the value of their words, and the apology is worthless.

A lot of people are going to relate to this, and the fact that it is well written and rhymed throughout is a plus in my book. You killed it.
