With Strangers

by zvikov   Apr 9, 2018

When it gets hard to breath
The air of self-indignation
Around they that are closest
And yet do not fully comprehend
For they know too much
And yet they know too little
Of what we were
Of what we’ve become
So I became a wanderer
Through places I was not known
Where my being was not tagged
To a past which I was perceived
That is when I felt so free
For then I found solace
In the company of strangers

Brilliant Zvikov! I'm stunned at the canny observations of why the company of strangers can be so much easier than those that know 'too much' about us. :-) x

    First off, great poem!
It feels to me like there is something extra-special about this poem.
    "For they know too much
And yet they know too little"
these lines were very thought provoking in my opinion. They seem so true, and yet I can't explain what seems so truthful in them or what they remind me of.
    "Of what we were
    Of what we’ve become"
This seems to be referencing the fact that each person is constantly changing, and growing. We aren't ever the same person as yesterday, and we won't ever be the same tomorrow.
"That is when I felt so free
    For then I found solace
    In the company of strangers"
There really is a certain sort of freedom in the company of strangers. They don't pretend to know you, they don't pretend to have all the answers because they don't feel like they know everything about you. In my opinion, it's easier to be yourself around strangers because it doesn't completely matter what they think. They do not have opinions about you that you feel pressured to uphold.
    Thank you for sharing :)
(P.S. I'm sorry if this was a little long and confusing and strange)

You picked up my thoughts exactly
      Another insight
"For they know too much - of what we were"
And yet they know too little - of what we've become"
Those lines go hand in hand.
