Decency Won\'t Get You Anywhere

by Chris Harding   Mar 7, 2006

Im steadfastly unawares
Stunned by your beauty
As I try to be sincere
Fluttered eyelashes infect me
As your dark eyes
Betray your sadness
Pure bliss passed me by
As your sweet scent hangs on the air
I can see my arm around you
And as you walk away
All I feel is despair

Ive betrayed myself again
With my shy silence
Another lost opportunity
The tragic story of my life
I could promise the world
Wrapped up in the shattered seashell of my heart
If all I could do was overcome
The fear of rejection
That stopped me talking to you

Gentle whispers in sleep dead ears
The faint sound of bird song
And calm music creates this atmosphere
My groggy eyes see this blurred illusion
Of your smiling face welcoming me into the world
Pity this lonely fool
For the simple wish of love
That would never come true

A cold, still morning
Only broken by the sound of weary footfalls
A weekend spent looking hopefully through car windows
Shes there, a perfect angel, maybe lost like me?
I look down, too afraid to let our eyes meet
So unaware, shell never know what could have been
Who dares dream I guess wins
Since decency wont get you anywhere
Only the greatest gift of friendship
Though good, will never be enough

So humble with great empathy
A quality they cant see
Through their ignorance they close themselves off
Misguided perhaps, just like me
Oh just pity this lonely fool
For the simple wish of love
That could never come true

    Wonderfully written, Chris.

    Ive betrayed myself again
    With my shy silence
    Another lost opportunity
The tragic story of my life
    I could promise the world
Wrapped up in the shattered seashell of my heart

beautiful, yet sad portrayl of what happens to a lot of people in love.
