What Did You Forget to Say?

by Not Bulletproof   Apr 27, 2006

Sad how you find the perfect thing to say,
When it's far too late.
Where it haunts you during the day,
And you start to contemplate,
Turning back time so you have your way.

Well, it's sadder when it's impossible;
When you realize you don't have that chance.
Sometimes it gets so stressful,
When you seep into a trance,
Just wishing to go back, but you're not able.

We're all sad, or will be sad,
When it hits us, all the things we never said.
We'll get so mad,
Break down crying when we snap the thread;
It'll get so bad.

Never commented on her gardening;
Didn't think much of the creative gifts;
Didn't praise her for her bargaining,
Or keep her company on night shifts;
Never spoke about her perfect targeting.

It's everything that counts when it's too late,
Even the simple songs that you sung together.
You can't think straight,
Because you're tied around "forever",
And how "forever" couldn't wait.

You forgot to say it was the best damn jam,
That you ever had.
Forgot to tell her you enjoy holding her hand,
And that she's pretty, even when she's sad,
Oh, and that you really do give a damn.

One day you forgot to apologize,
And it slipped from your mind.
Now that it's too late, you realize,
That she was the nicest person you could ever find,
With the prettiest eyes.

You admired her perfect tan and perfect face,
You just loved her green thumb.
Always thought she belonged to a gracious place,
But thought that it sounded dumb,
So you never told her she was beauty's grace.

Cried the whole night through when you couldn't make her smile,
So mad at yourself and the world.
Sometimes you thought you weren't "worth the while",
Cause she was such a pretty girl,
When really, you never cramped her style.

You missed an "I love you",
When you walked out the door.
Now you don't know what to do,
Cause there's nothing you can say to her anymore,
Sad thought, but it's true.

Sad how you find the perfect thing to say,
When it's far too late.
And you just can't go back to that one day,
And tell her to wait,
Because you have something you just have to say.

    It's sad that the most awful things that happen in life bring about the most beautiful things; like this poem. But it just goes to show that some things happen for a reason, wether it's coincidence or pre-decided. I couldn't imagine one of my aunt's passing away. They happen to be some of the coolest people I have and will ever meet. They can be your friends but still be your family and have that unconditional love for you. I know you and your family can get through this, and I truly hope things get better for you soon.

    Take Care,
    Renee

    Oh wow this is so sad and so touching.

    This is beautifully written, I loved it so much.

    After the first time I read it I had to go back and read it again, and read it out loud. And it sounded so much better.

    I could feel the emotions and feelings you've put into this one.

    It's really fantastic.

    I also can relate to it. It's a very sad thought knowing you can never go back to that moment and tell her what you have to say.

    Just read this at her funeral. She will hear you. She will.

    Carrying someone in your heart never goes unnoticed. She knows you love her.

    I'm sorry for your loss. Keep writing, just scream it all out.

    You did a fantastic job on this one. I'm seriously impressed!

    Take care of yourself *hugs*

    Lotsaaaaaaaa love
