Sweet regret

by Bonnie Rose   Jun 25, 2006

I left you a note
on the end of your bed,
tucked in a bottle,
all the things that i said,

since the day i saw you,
i wanted to know you,
not a cheap kiss in the corridor,
i just wanted to show you,

that i love everything you are,
but i would never confess
because a friendship could be lost
and parted till the end,

the thoughts just twisted
around my bones,
suffocated my sleep,
scrunching my toes,

so i took a chance,
and i told you all my secrets
you smiled, and hugged me,
but said you couldn't commit,

i never had an idea,
you were with another love
so i smiled and composed myself,
these hands in gloves,

last night, these telephones wires,
carried your heart,
in a trembling voice
into my palms

and the moment I'd wished for,
came true like a dream,
i even made you promise
this wasn't just a one night thing,

you smiled like an angel,
and answered me on my lips,
i just wanted to hold you,
with these fingertips,

woke the next morning,
your breath on my neck,
as you came to,
whispered what a sweet regret.
