Simplistic thoughts

by Chris   Jul 11, 2006

If I gave you a light, would you walk through the dark.
Would you turn all your fears into screams.

If I gave you a light, would you discover new truths.
Or would you just believe what you've only seen.

If I gave you an answer, would you ask me the question.
Or would you already know what it means.

It's the simplist words that turn thoughts into actions.
Speak softly and live out every dream.

Umm... I like this. It starts of very well with a great visual. But this bit doesn't sit comfortably with me:

"It's the simplist words that turn thoughts into actions.
Speak softly and live out every dream."

Surely the simplest thoughts turn words into actions, rather than the reverse? That seems to be the theme conveyed in the following line.

    Maybe I misinterpreted!

I think this one is great as it is. Even though it seems like you stay general just like the other one, the words you use enable the reader to pput their own particular meanings to it. For example:

If I gave you a light, would you discover new truths.
Or would you just believe what you've only seen.

This helps guide the reader into thinking about what they believe they see on a normal die that is a bunch of lies. TO mind can come media, shows, movies, friends actions, etc. The last poem didn't necessarily do the same thing to this extent.

'If I gave you an answer, would you ask me the question.
Or would you already know what it means.'

I really liked that stanza. Is it meant not to have question marks on the end? Because it was implying a question. But I really do like this. I loved its overall message!
