It depends on the situtation

by beav   Feb 2, 2007

An old man and his dog,
sitting on a bench
at a scenic overlook.
what is that old man thinking of...
the simple beauty of it all?
maybe he is remembering
this place as a child.
maybe he's wishing
he was a child.
what is he trying to remember?
where has all the time gone?
perhaps he is on a journey
resting at convenient stop.
no, this must be
more than convenient.
he must have a reason
for being here.
maybe he is thinking
of a young girl
he loved long ago.
maybe this was their place.
maybe he is all alone now.
or maybe-
he might be wondering
why he is here.
he could be wishing
he weren't.
anything is possible.
he doesn't make a sound.
he simply sits
and pets his dog.
maybe that's what
he's thinking about-
an old man
and his dog.
